I know what you mean but once you study this forum and learn some caned openers and jokes, you will get better with practice, also watch funny movies and stand up comedians and just make up stories, it will take some time but you'll get better, before you know it you will be a natural, it took me some time too so don't trip, good luck

I can easily relate. I was out last night and tried a pick up line I saw here on the forum, and they just kind of looked at me like a retard. Then, since not even a smile broke out and they didn't say anything else, I was pretty much lost for words to say anything else. Damn, I'm such an AFC.

Dust yourself off, try again and again until you get better at it. After a while you will build up enough confidence that a look may be all you need to start your opener :)

Good luck

Remember, that what you say usually isnt as important as how you say it. By "pick up line" do you mean an opener, or some chesey line like "come here often"?

Were you faceing them or were you opening them over your shoulder, was your posture good, did you have a smile on your face?

The reason for canned material falls into 2 reasons

-They are tested and work
-They let you automate your words and focus on tone, posture, facial expression...basically all the body language and subtle verbal things you wouldnt typically notice.

So use a decent opener, that isnt over used, and memorize it. Use it but pay more attention to how you stand, your facial expressions, your tone. You'll notice a much better reaction.

Just think, if someone came upto you and asked you an amusing question, but there face looked like that of someone nervous, how would you likely react?

You most likely wouldnt be too humorous yourself in your answer, and most likely would feel uncomfortable.

Work on your openers and try and be natural but Alpha when doing them, once you can do a canned opener with ease and have a set buy into it, work on some original material.

Hope this helps

Good point, honestly I was a little tipsy, but it was an opener, not a pick up line. I'm slowly already getting more confident in myself so hopefully it'll all come together with time

if ur thinking about it, it won't work out too well. just let it flow naturally, try not to filter your thoughts. First thing that comes to you, let it out. Unless its something about bleaching your pubes or rubbing one out.

I think I have a pretty good grasp of how to be an expert in the art of conversation, because thats what it is, an art. I may miss a few points here so feel free to add on if I miss anything.

Here is where most people mess up, on fluff talk. They don't know what to talk about... its pretty easy actually. The answer is ANYTHING. travel, movies, family, friends, your visit to the gay pride parade, it really doesn't matter. Just be sure not to ask yes or no questions, for example:

AFC: So whats your major?
Girl: Psychology
AFC: Do you like it?
Girl: (im gonna give him the same answer to the same question every guy and their mother asks me) Yes

Now here is how a master in conversation does it?

PUA: College, the good ol' days, whats your major?
Girl: Psychology
PUA: (ask for her hands) So what am I thinking right now?
or
PUA: Interesting, I just read this book on human dynamics and they said the energy levels in conversations directly relate to how comfortable you are with the person. So what made you decide to get into psych?

As juggler once put it, there are two different ways to take a conversation.. you can ask questions, or make statements. Take a look at two friends, they speak in statement form. To get them more comfortable, tell them how you feel. I like this book, i like this drink, I like getting head while driving 80 down the freeway.

So once again, it really doesn't matter what you talk about, whatever comes into your head. Just put it into statement form and you should be fine.
