As the topic says, I'm new to the game. I'm 25, in Texas, and I spent several years working myself into a rut of self-pity and depression. Luckily enough I realized the only person that could help me was ME. When I realized how ugly my "total package" was, I decided to fix myself before fixing my problem of no women. There's no sense in skipping steps 1 through 8 and then complaining that step 9 was a failure.

Improvements to date: lost weight, massively increased self confidence (not cocky, just not depressing and needy), financially independent, and most of all I am no longer shy. I also am able to catch myself about 80% of the time before I start going into an over-thinking thought process, which used to be a major problem before.

Some of my main interests are animals, science, technology and psychology.

I haven't yet done the "newbie challenge" per se, although in a way I've been doing it daily for months now. I make it a point to make polite eye contact/smile/small talk with as many people as I can. My main goal in joining this forum is taking it past that. My other area of needed improvement is that I generally will not engage anything but a one- or two-set.

For about the past year, I've had an intermittent case of oneitis in the form of a crush on my best friend. It's under control now, but I think of it more like alcoholism than the flu. Romantic hopes about her are the dangerous alcohol, and just one "drink" could set me back. Honestly, I can't imagine any point in my future that if she came up to me and professed her love that I would reject her. Luckily I understand that's not a healthy thing to expect ("Some day she'll love me, I just need to wait for her!").


Back to reading for now. I've read most of the stickies, but if there are any specific readings that come highly recommended I'm open to suggestions. Anything that would apply more directly to someone like me who has zero problem with opening and possibly every problem with any form of closing would be great. Maybe I'm just not picking up on IOI in general?

Thanks for the reading suggestions. I'm particularly interested in Natural Game by Gambler, but Google hasn't been very successful. I did see a mention of an ebook that someone purchased, so that's hopeful. I'll keep looking.

It's not worth a new thread, but I think it's my first move in the direction from AFC to putting an R in front of that. I haven't used POF in months, never really had any results from it anyways. Because of the complete lack of results in the past, I redid everything. I also saw a girl I was interested in and sent her a short message, including my number with it. I'll update if there's any reply.
