I'm considering getting a place where I'll have 3 roommates. It'll be a lot cheaper so I'll have more $ to go out with and I'm thinking I'll be able to build social connections or whatever. Also I'll get general social practice - currently I have difficulty making fluid conversation.
I think it has potential but
1) A tiny 4-man apartment probably wouldn't be the best place to bring a date back to because no privacy and everyone in there can hear everything.
2) Obviously I could get stuck with roommates who suck so I'd be trading a peaceful home for a loud shithole loaded with douchbags.
Its just that the "physics graduate student social circle" isn't really the best social circle to be in if you want to get laid. Seeing as how there's about 2 semi-cute girls, so that everyone drools over them and those bitches think they're something else (wait till they get out of grad school and into the real world where they'll never be approached by men again).
If you have a strong opinion or some good insight into what the ideal living arrangements are for getting pussy in college post reply.

They help you network and meet new people. I have always tried to live with people who aren't on my course so that you meet people from different courses. Although just as you said they could be douchbags... if I were you go and meet them first and see what you think of them, then make a more informed decision.
Also as long as the people are sound, the privacy issue shouldn't be a problem. Its common for students to live together, and if you do bring a girl back as long as you are okay about it, everyone else should be too. At least thats how it works in our student culture...
