Believe it or not, I got this girl’s number while sitting next to her on the bus home after work today. It was actually a really good conversation and there was good body language, we were turned facing each other for most of the conversation.

I thought I would be bold and text her a few hours after meeting her (today!). So I text her this:

Me: 20.33 Hi, u know I don’t normally like lawyers, but maybe ur different? (she is a lawyer by the way)

HB: 21.01 Haha what would make me different?

Me: 21.21 If I tell u then u’ll just pretend to be like that lol

HB: 21.55 No tell me

Have I actually gone wrong and how do I rescue this?

I don’t know if she’s kind of pissed off. Tempted to text back saying something like “Don’t take it too seriously lol. Are u more of a kind hearted person than the average lawyer lol

I don't see any reason why she'd be pissed off. Her responses seem pretty standard.

Thanks, yeah you’re right. I suppose I’m just used to girls normally including smiley faces and lol’s in a text or email, so I thought this to be not a good sign when really it probably didn’t mean anything.

I did reply and now I’ve texted her twice today, but it’s pretty much the standard boring “how was ur day” and “awww what happened?” As she doesn’t seem that jokey and flirty in her texts (surprisingly), it’s kind of hard to build rapport and get a fun conversation going.

Any ideas how to get out of the trap of these standard routine texts?

There doesn’t seem too much point in trying to start a flirty text message exchange, I think I’m just gonna stop beating around the bush and ask her for a drink. Not sure how to word it though, maybe something along the lines of “why don’t u show me how different you are over a drink, but I promise nothing but good conversation”?
