Use P90X, it works. However, make sure you're taking breaks between those 9 days...your muscles grow most when the fibers have a chance to repair themselves.

Im a big guy and my job is not physically demanding, infact... all i do is answer a phone.

what can I do at home to lose weight gain strength. because I don't have access to a gym I do night shifts and sleep during the day so i can't hit the gym usually.
Buy yourself a TRX suspension trainer. it is awesome and you can use it anywhere. It is pretty much the only resistance training I do these days and I am a fitness professional and competitive athlete.

How is it going OP? You better not post that you have quit or made no progress!

A lot of good information in this thread, our bodies are amazing and they can work themselves out....I know guys who are the size of bodybuilders who don't go to the gym, all they have is a pull up bar and a weight set...You can do it all in your home, don't think otherwise...I live on a 2nd floor apartment and choose to go to the gym to do my jump training, and cardio, but do everything else here...

I would just like to add: Do what works for you...P90X might work for you, Insanity might work for you, simple circuit training might work, or maybe just a long jog/run works....just get out there and get active...I am a computer guy so I am in the same inactivity boat, its rough!

Heres what works for me (and I am still fat!):
P90X + 1 hr of cardio 3 days a week, and an Insanity workout when bored.
I do take supplements: Animal pak vitamins, Isopure protein, creatine, L-glutamine, and jac3d before cardio sometimes.
Every time you mess up your diet - put money in a jar and give it to someone...
Simple diet, low carbs, high protein - 8 - 200 cal meals a day...
On cardio days I eat more carbs an hour or two before my workouts.
My best investment in 2010 was a George foreman grill, no joke.

PS: weight yourself 2 times a day, you will see fluctation because of water weight and stuff, but its a mental push...track your diet with http://www.livestrong.com/myplate/

Now:
fairly simple, dont eat a lot and burn what you got off...
Realize you need to do different programs/diets to achieve different results.
Don't just take something off the web and use it as your own, your body is unique.
Figure out what it needs...don't get hooked on thermogenics!

I like P90X because I can go onto youtube and twitter and have a support group, watch other people struggle and get pushed myself...I'm now starting an out of home program called crossfit...It's insane!

Good luck, give is an update.

Crossfit and p90x are awesome and very similar. They are both "functional" programs. P90x outlines the most important fact in changing body composition very well with "muscle confusion". Your body is a machine that adapts to stress!!! If you do not add new stresses to your body then it will not adapt. Moving from p90x to crossfit is a perfect way to keep your body guessing. Eventually you will need to move from crossfit to something else. There is no one answer to fitness. You gotta keep moving forward and help your body to adapt into whatever machine you need it to be. This thread kind of kicks ass.

Well the idea for loosing weight is that you are doing somekind of activity called cardio where you are running, swimming, cycling for atleast 20 minutes in a not to hard and not to soft heartrate. You will perhaps need to do this everyday for good results, but exercise is not enough if you want to loose some weight then you have to begin eating heathly maybe eating 5-6 meals a day counting your calories so you got a special amount that way in a healthy way without loosing muscle mass u will loose around 0,5 kg fat a week. Here's what you will need for loosing weight and eating healthy.

w w w. scoobysworkshop. com

For the strenght training I dont recommend weight training because I think that it wont give you functional strenght anyway and you will probably need to go to the gym which takes also a lot of time and that is what you dont want :)

Thats why I recommend that you get the book "Convict Conditioning" by "Paul Wade" which is about bodyweight strenght training. This book shows bw exercises that wont just only give you endurance it will show you how to perform: One arm pushups with elbow in without spreading the legs, handstand pushups on one hand, pullups on one hand, stand to stand bridge, one leg squat and straight leg raises.

These exercises will give you great strenght u will gain a lot of muscle mass and heathly powerful joints. But beware this isn't easy all this if you really want good result. These exercises wont take much of your time you will only need a pullup bar and a couple of items for working out which is easy to get just the pullup bar is maybe a little hard to get. :)

Check out this website bodyweightculture. com

Please pm me in private so I can help you with the book, and if you got anymore questions then I can help you.

Best for Overweight people body for life www.bodyforlife.com easy to follow and you will get results right away, after that, you will move to p90x, after p90x you will do insanity, and after that you will do p90x insanity/hybrid... Buy powerblock dumbells and a pull up bar... All you need, maybe a bench...Follow the body for life diet, is simple and effective, then get rid of a cheat day and just do a cheat meal, then do not cheat at all...

P90X is a fitness programm designed for in your own home. It takes up about 1 hour a day and it works great. You just have to buy some dumbells a yoga mat(or something thicker) and a pull up bar.
P90X - it works

Situps wont get you a 6 pack. You need to burn fat for your abs to show and situps dont burn that much fat. There are far better exercises for abs than situps because they work other muscles at the same time than just he abs.

Starvation will result in more muscle loss than fat loss. A balanced diet is what you need.
