I think I may have developed something of a porn addiction, I know what mystery said about picking a specific day, but no matter how hard I try I can't follow through.

Right now for instance, I have like 6 tabs open and 4 of them are porn. I just can't stop.

That was very a very hard addiction to give up for me.

I was a smoker and I quit, I can tell you it was much easier quitting smoking than quitting porn (maybe becuase I was not that big of a smoker...)

Anyway, what happened to me might not be a useful advice to you.

For work reasons, I moved into a foreign country and I didn't have internet for 6 months. After the 6 months, the addiction was over.

Of course I still watch porn from time to time, once or twice a week, for few hours... but is not an addiction anymore... thank God I gave that up!

I'll give you the natural definition:

There is a reason for this, everytime you turn on the porn, your testosterone level rises (like drugs make high amounts of adrenalin) and everytime it rises and then falls the body feels the need to get more of that hormone again.
You can only prevent that rise of need by cutting off porn for 7 days exactly, what happens (with ''almost'' every hormone in our body) is, after it has risen to a high level and it drops, there is a spike of need for that high level again, I think that for testosterone, that spike builts up and reaches its peak in 2 or three day and then in about a week in drops again on a normal level.
So if you can hold it for a week, you can hold it for a next week and next week... I'm not saying, that you should cut off all the way (altought you can do that), but you can gradually reduce it to a level, that you feel comfortable.

Here is the psychological definition:

When you watch porn, your mind is satisfied and it keeps you int the house, so you stop trying to get girls, because the need of getting girls is satisfied with porn.
So the solution for this is to turn off computer and go out to hang out, just fo things to keep your mind occupied and soon you'll get in to a habit of this and your addiction'll reduce.

Here's a good article for you. Read it 10 times a day. It'll help.

I was also at same situation as you are. Somehow managed to get over.

Thank you for all the advice, that article really hellped. I've been "clean" lol for 2 days and as long as I keep going back to that article I don't think it'll be too much of a a problem. Although I don't think I'll be feeling that way after the next couple days.

I read a site recently about this and it seems pretty scientifically sound.

http://yourbrainonporn.com

One of the things it says (maybe its the only thing it says, I havnt read any more of the site) is that porn lowers dopamine levels in the longs run.

Dopamine is the brain chemical that is to do with reward. When you see a hot girl, have a cigarette, eat..anything pleasurable basically, dopamine levels rise during this time. This is what makes you want to do this the next time.

However, like any drug that is continuously used, the brain becomes tolerant to OVERstimulation. Porn raises dopamine levels a lot because it is SO sexually stimulating. Plus you can watch as much as you like, see as many different girls as you like, all with no delay at all (as soon as you feel like it).

This causes high dopamine because the brain is thinking "this is fucking sick!. I am having sex with all these girls!"...but your not really.

Over time, you get tolerant to it, so you get less of a dopamine spike everytime you watch porn...so less pleasure. but this does not mean that you no longer want to watch it because the reward pathways are already set up.

You basically get pleasure from anticipating watching porn, but no longer get as much pleasure as you used to from actually watching it. This is why the first time you watched porn was AMAZING!! and now its normal. And it's why you want to look for different, more extreme porn...because this gives you that dopamine spike that you used to get from regular porn but no longer do.

Anyway, I think that if porn is now normal when it used to be "AMAZING!!" then seeing a hot chick walking down the street can't reeally excite you hardly at all. I mean you've been watching naked chick fucking guys most nights of your adults life...this is just a girl wearing clothes! boring!

I think cutting the porn will make me aroused more easily during the day like when I was 15 and will make me want to approach more.

I think it's ok to use porn once in awhile just to get some crap off your chest. But addiction is really bad. Study PUA material on the computer or watch a movie as a substitute, much better then wasting time satisfying the crazy monkey. :P

I was never really addicted to porn. When I was younger and watched porn frequently, there actually would come a point where the porn just did nothing for me.

Now older, I kind of equate porn habits to video game habits or television habits. It's not so much a moral wrong but it is a waste of time.

I can honestly write, I have not seen porn in months and I have no desire to watch porn. I think that fact has a lot to do with the fact that I am in a place in life where I'm actively doing what I want to do and loving it.

During the period where I watched porn most, I was really at an empty point in my life. I hated my job, I hated my social life, I did not have hobbies.

The first step for me was getting up quitting my job and just start doing what I love although it pays less. The beauty of my new profession is that I just enjoyed reading up on it more and understanding it better, which then lead to having other activities in my life. Such as reading about various subjects, attending seminars on various subjects, beginning to interact more with people who had similar interest I did.

So everything just fell into place when I accepted what I loved to do instead of doing what I was doing for the money. Although my previous job paid me quite more, I did the bare minimum to remain employed and I was burnt out the rest of the time. No way would I do anything to improve myself in my private time and I certainly did not want to interact with others in the same profession.

Conclusion: the porn is not the problem but the symptom of the problem. The real problem is that for some reason you are not finding the satisfaction and happiness in the real world so you are attempting to avoid it or escape it.

I agree but I think porn is both a symptom if not having the life u want sand not being happy, but also a cause of other problems such as low libido and lack of women in your life. You definitely want to sort out other problems in your life that are stopping you from being happy, but once three porn has become habit/addiction then a conscious effort will have to be made to stop it.

Yes, porn is horrible. It inhibits you to pick up girls since your mind feels like there is no need for female interaction. I used to like porn a lot since I wouldn't have to go out and mingle with people. But now being porn free, it gives me more testosterone and energy to go out and hunt for HB's.

Porn and masturbation hinders the mind.

Pick 1 day a week you let yourself browse and download porn - trust me this works. The other days you can look at porn you've downloaded and thats on your computer but you cannot go on the internet and do it and get more except for that one day - and you can do it for a full 24hrs that day. Mark it on your calender! I did!

J-Day lol

Anyway, after that I just started to become less interested in it and see it for what it was - a waste of time.

That article was the biggest piece of bullshit I've ever seen.

Full Disclosure: I worked (and still sort of do work) in the porn industry for over a decade.

My professional opinion is this: If you want to stop looking at porn, STOP LOOKING AT PORN.

Making a big deal out of it is what's making it difficult for you.

This article will help, read it 10 times a day:

Look at porn when you're sick and can't leave the house otherwise actually go out during that time you would have spent doing so.
