Hey all,

Im going to try and get myself to set myself down, and work on a new hobby: reading. Its good for your mind, healthy, and it gives you stuff to talk about.

What kind of books, do you like reading?

And any titles in detail, that have realy influenced your life, or given you great insight?

Books on Body Language, Psychology and other forms of social dynamics.

Seeing how people tick is just so interesting and can open insights about yourself.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is a fascinating read. Hater by David Moody is another book I've read recently that was incredible. The Kite Runner is a great book too.

The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell is still the best book I've read.

However, general book recommendations are dumb. Go to amazon, find a book you like and see what other people are reading.

If you want something non pua that will improve your way of thinking, I would recommend "The Power Of now", pretty good perspective on the way we think and how to improve thinking.

If you want something interesting and fun, check out "Lone Survivor", I haven't finished this yet, but I'm over half way and loving it. It's about a Navy Seal team (true story) that gets taken out, except for the the author of course, who is the lone survivor.

Personally I don't read fiction because it is easier to watch a movie but at the same time these are the 4 books I have read recently which are pretty awesome:

1. 4 Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris, is truly about creating your lifestyle, accomplishing your dreams and escaping from the 9 to 5 work pace.

2. I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max, learn what is truly means not giving a fuck! I was laughing on every page and I think it was the first book ever that I just couldn't get enough of, really hilarious!

3. My Booky Wook by Russel Brand, his autobiography how he was both a sex and drug addict and most importantly his charm with women, I think there is not a single interviews that he does where he is no hardcore flirting with the women interviewing him or even making out with them as he did on one of the interview for his movie "Get Him to the Greek"

4. Mr Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream by Steven Watts, just really interesting the whole story of playboy and the sexual revolution, and if you are learning about women what a better man to learn from than the creator of Playboy Hugh Hefner

Cheers mate!

glad i found this post!
I'm ordering: The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins and The Red Queen Sex and the Evolution of Human nature By Matt Ridley, both are about heredity, gene, evolution, and sex.
Hardball - Chris Matthews gives you the ins and out of politics and just successful networking (also check out How to win friends and influence people by dale carengie *classic*)
The rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmound Morris (Guarantee you wont find a man as incredible/interesting as Teddy and he'll literally motivate the shit out of you)
Also gonna start on A people's history of the united states by Howard Zinn (incredible book that redefines american history, gives you a totally different perspective of the US)
And if you're into Hiphop:
Decoded by Jay-Z (Hustler to rapper, rags to riches autobi)

Definitely gonna checkout those other books too, thanks for the list! really trying to get back into reading.

can I get some more recommendations on psychological/pua related readings? Not talking about Neil Strauss "The Game" or Mystery Method. But like academia type/not strictly PUA type books.

--> Straight Up Social Psychology ___ Influence: The Power of Persuasion, by Robert Cialdini, best book on persuasion out there.

--> PUA recommendation ____ Free Sinn's Game Acceleration Doctrine, which is a free ebook which you can get on his site and it will tell you what to read and what not to read and how to create your own game style.

I never liked 50 Cent but after reading the 50th Law while over in Manhattan it changed me a little bit. Exactly what i needed at the time, and has made me so much more productive and fearless. Also a fan of his music now too.
Other than that I read a lot of Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and all kinds of biographies and history. I think general knowledge and opinions on a wide range of topics is more attractive and will go a longer way than reading books on pickup, body language, evolutionary psychology, etc.

EDIT Unless you're already going out and approaching girls for an hour or so a day, you obviously don't need any pickup related information - Unless you wanna slow down your learning considerably.

I haven't really been uptodate reading it, but from what i've read so far it's a pretty good book, especially if you're into hiphop.. then its fire flames. Its an autobiography about his days as a drug dealer and coming up in rapping. And then he mixes in some of his songs and explains his lyrics and whatnot. It's pretty cool as he goes into alot of the street culture, and the rise of not only himself but hiphop in general.

Also if you're into sports: The book of basketball by bill simons, and the Jordan Rules by sam smith

Is that because you're in trouble psyching yourself out by reading pickup related books, or is it because the stuff is only useful to people in a more advanced stage of pickup. Gonna have to check out some Dawkins, etc that you were telling me about

Read Chuck Klosterman, he's a rock critic for Spin. I like his book Sex, Drugs, and CocoPuffs. It is an analysis of pop culture.

I think these should be obvious:

The Art of War, Sun Tzu
The Prince, Machiavelli
Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill
How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie (this book is outsold only by the Bible, by the way)
Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell
Black Swan, Nassim Taleb (nothing to do with the movie, fyi)
Assholes Finish First, Tucker Max (if only for the bullhorn story)
Dune, Frank Herbert (arguably the best science fiction book of all time)
The Hagakure, Tsunetomo Yamamoto (a collection of thoughts, sayings, and anecdotes from shortly after Japan's era of civil wars)
The Book of the Five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi (THE Musashi)
Eleanor of Aquitaine, Alison Weir (An incredible biography that has a wealth of information about Europe during the 1100s. Very impressive)

That's all I can think of at the moment. Most of my books are in storage SPAM.

-Journey to the End of the Night, Louis-Ferdinand Céline
-Les Misérables (in Wikipedia it's translated by The Miserable Ones, The Wretched, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, or The Victims), Victor Hugo
-Le Père Goriot (Old Goriot or Father Goriot), Honoré de Balzac
-EDIT: oh I forgot this one: The Wall, Jean-Paul Sartre
-EDIT2: If This a Man, Primo Levi

Beware, you might turn gay if you read them all.
