Okay, so I've been taking salsa lesson for about a year now. I was asked to help teach the intro to salsa lesson. OMG! There are so many singles girls there, and most people don't even talk each other in the first few classes. Plus, it's easy to make friends at these classes, cause all you need to is plan to go out salsa dancing to a club.
It's pretty, after a year of salsa pretty much all my friends I hang out with are from salsa, which is awesome since I go hang out/dance with beautiful women most the of the week.
Basically it's a great place to start building a social circle, plus hang out with beautiful women, who have beautiful women that they can introduce you to. So strap on your dancing shoes, make sure your breath is nice and put some some nice cologne.

yes...i completely 100% agree. When I got into the game, this was the one thing that gave me confidence. On the dance floor, its really easy to approach and be playful and fun to see if the other person is into you. When your talking to girls outside, its huge DHV to say you can salsa well since most girls like to dance or want to learn to dance. I'm not a good salsa dancer by any means but I know just enough to be able to teach them a step or two and it helps immensely.

hey guys!
I've been taking salsa lessons for 4 months now, and it's been a great ride so far. i just wonder if you use salsa moves (spins and stuff) in regular clubs on girls who can't dance salsa?

Hell yes! This is such a great idea I've been doing the same thing with swing dancing :D
Everything B.A.B.B. said is definitely true, although swing has a more fun and high energy vibe than salsa's sexy latin feel.

I'm not sure how well all the moves translate over to a night club, I'm under 21 so I've never been. But my friend told me this hilarious story about going to a bar and trying to west coast swing with a girl and she just drops her hands and says "this isn't dancing with the stars.."

Oh man! I burst out laughing but it really got me thinking yanno? So I've been playing around with Pickupdance (search it on youtube) and taking some blues (which doesn't look that cool but feels AMAZING). I get the feeling both are going to work magic once I turn 21 and can go to clubs. Inserting a few moves here and there into my swing dancing on friday nights has been a hit :)

Anyone care to field test some salsa or swing at a club and let us know how it goes?

I see Salsa mentioned a lot so I'm interested but I have a few questions.

Whats the deal with these classes? Do you go on your own or should you take a wing? Also why is Salsa so frequently talked in this context as opposed to any other form of dancing?

I think its because salsa has a reputation for being more flirty and sizzling in its vibe. There's a bit more hip movement (sexy) in it than swing dancing which tends to get more bouncy and ridiculously fun without having an automatic flirtatious vibe.

For swing, I go to a social dance hall every friday night where they do a 1 hour lesson that starts with the basic steps of Jitterbug swing, then goes into a combination of 2-3 different moves. I've been going for 6 months and have only gotten the same lesson twice. It allows the more experienced dancers to continue learning while even the first timers have a good time learning to dance.

Everyone dances with everyone in a huge circle, rotating partners every couple of steps to get a feel for how to lead/follow the different moves with each new person.

A big crowd of more experienced dancers comes in towards the end of the lesson and waits for the dance party to begin :)

Ever since the first lesson I've gone on my own each time. I meet new people each week and over time started to recognize the regulars. You'll end up knowing a TON of people by face but not name, and nobody holds it against you because they're experiencing that too.

I never brought a wing, and I suspect bringing a wing may help your game, but hinder how quickly you learn to dance.

I met my girlfriend there, she's been dancing for about 3 years, where I just got into it recently. I wasn't a very good lead until she went to france for a month. Without someone I could rely on to talk to and dance with I would get kinda lonely. So to counteract it I just never left the dance floor. As soon as a song was over I would thank my follower and ask another girl to dance. I asked all the hottest girls there to dance and it was a huge confidence booster.

At this dance hall they also offer more advanced swing lessons on tuesday nights and argentine tango (1) on monday nights. I signed up for a months worth of both.
The tuesday crowd turned out to be all the college aged regulars who own the dance floor on friday nights! I've gotten a lot better as a dancer from just two months of those lessons and now have girls I've danced with coming back to me later in the night to ask me to dance. And it impressed the hell out of my girlfriend when she got back from France.

Each dance studio and dance scene is going to be different, you just gotta pay attention to the social scene and figure out who's who and what's what. Just love dancing and you'll figure everything out from there :)

1: Argentine Tango at my local dance hall has more of an older crowd. I'm usually the youngest person there by about 10-15 years. More people came as couples and stayed together for the whole thing than swing. The leading is REALLY intense and incredible. Tango is such an incredibly seductive dance, but I'm not sure how well its geared towards pickup. Swing (or salsa) seems better for that to me.

I dont know about salsa specifically but, i do tango. And while you cant really used tango in the dance floor, i for example use some kino on a set by taking her hand and make her spin. It really help me to improve my playfullness.

I hope it helps
