I've been getting into online dating quite a bit in the last few months. While learning a few things on the web i found this chart with 11 things you should know about online dating.

The most interesting statics to me is that the online dating industry is bigger then the porn industry!

What do you guys think?

Well if you think about it, it does makes sense. Porns target audience is mainly just males.

women watch pron too. I know a hand full of girls that watch more porn than me, and I love porn.

Its not dating sites killing porn its the internet in genreal. Who wants to go buy a porn mag or movie when you can just go to a free site and watch a movie. And even porn sites that you pay for are so cheap compared to movies. Same thing happened with the music industry. I doubt dating site effect porn sales. Not to many guys whack off to dating site pictures seriously.

iTunes killed CDs
Netflix killed blockbuster/hollywood video
Digital downloads kill the rest of the industry.

Actually it was file sharing that did these things. Among some other things, but it was primary file sharing.

What no thoughts on the rest of the statistics?

Really? Napster and other p2p programs started it but no. Most people do not use filesharing programs because they are illegal. iTunes on the other hand is used by just about everyone. Sure CD sales where hurt from filesharing but it was iTunes that killed them. Same with netflix very few people use filesharing websites for movies but netflix has stolen so much movie rental market blockbuster is done. Most people do not use filesharing for porn either but go to actual porn sites. The porn site these days actually let free-sites use clips of their movies to hook people into paying for memberships. However alot of people are able to just use the clips and end up not paying for it.

Filesharing is illegal and Napster,LimeWire and countless other networks have been shut down.

Besides them being bull crap? I find when it comes to dating stats they tend to not be actuate. And the ones that are are already wildly known. Like how there are more men than women on dating sites etc.

Actually a lot of people use file sharing programs. Pirate Bay had over 12 Million users in 2008. The reason why iTunes and NetFix are "killing" is because they offer a distribution method the market wants. Which is why Napster got so popular as people wanted online distribution and both the RIAA and the MPAA resisted and still resist it today tho not as much. iTunes and NetFix are now the new media "medium". First we had record (tho they are still around which surprises me), then cassette tapes, then CD's and now iTunes.
To put it simply porn is killing porn. Porn adapted to the internet in most probably not in the best business model in SPAM free samples.
Napster is alive and legal now.

Hmmm so which ones are bs? Are you just giving a blanket statement without actually looking at them? And how is it that you think they are bs? Is that how you feel or do you actually have something to back it up? - For my information.

One problem with those statisics

It covers all dating sites. Okcupid has no fake profiles trying to scam you into joining another site. AFF has millions of scammers and fake profiles. So how can you say 1-10 are scammers. Try using cragslist you will get nothing but scammers, use ok cupid/pof you won't see any.

I did look at them. The reason I think most of them are bs is because its stats. And they are never that actuate. Most stats are done with a sample group so there is usually a good margin of error.

If you read the bottom different statistics come from different places.

these are stats for a wide range of sites and a large number of people. As they say, "your mileage may vary".

They say overall 1 of 3 women have sex on the first meetup. On some sites, and in some age groups, it is probably more like 4 out of 5. On eharmony it is probably like 1 in 5 because they want to get married.

Yeah, it's also interesting to note that sometimes I've found a girl on 2 different sites. on the first site she talks about relationships, on the second she talks about sex. It's funny to see how women are looking for both things be selling 2 different messages.
