If you are looking to win take up boxing, but if you are in a big city look for style called Koei-Kan. Its a close courter style of Karate. Its what Marine Corp combat is based on. It is basically punching and head butts and throws aimed at weak parts of the body. Its what Chuck Liddell is proficient in. If you know Koei-Kan no one and I mean know will will be able to fight you.

History- Developed to combat Tae Kwon do in Korea. My father learned it in Korea, where he taught it here in America. It is a rare form. More info

In the UK there isn't a chance the guy you're going to fight has a gun. In the US I'm sure that the idea of the other person having a gun must be in the back of peoples minds. The other guy having a gun never enters anyones mind.

Standing and fighting is stupid. Anyone that says otherwise is a keyboard jockey or not had a fight on a night out.

Krav Maga for how easy it is to intially pick up. Its used here in the Britsh Army as well due to its effectiveness. The Krava Maga you will get taught by civillians will be for self defence not for killing someone.

All martial arts etc. are good one way or the other I dont believe there is no best. Just some more suited for different situations.

It is important to learn how to fight.... It helps you to relax in those situations. It helps you to be intimidating to make people think twice and to let your confidence not falter. I saw my BJJ instructor get a drink thrown in his face and swings thrown his way he stayed calm and talked the guy down. Its useful to know that you could kill someone if it came to that, not saying you ever would. One thing I have found is that people that can actually fight dont fight, or they are complete idiots and you have that on them too.

So true. I try to avoid fights as best as I possibly can.

However, if some retard is stupid enough to step to me I find it important to be able to end it in under 10 seconds.

**Disclaimer** I'm destroyed right now, but this shit is still legit.

If you ever get hit in the face and your lip gets split open, spit blood in the guys face and say "Oh, by the way, I've got AIDs." then spit more blood at them.

Nobody is going to hit you again after that.

I am absolutely sure that you can't go wrong with boxing, though MMA is maybe as good. I don't know about the others because I only know the two, but I am highly skeptical about those martial arts coming from the east (not including muay thai)

Its not so much what martial art you choose but how hard you train.

I have done boxing, BJJ, and am now starting my journey with Krav Maga. As we speak I am still recovering from class.

Out of the three listed above Krav Maga is BY far the most practical and within the first class it is guaranteed that you will walk away with a better understanding of how to handle yourself in street fights. However it is very intense and within the start of class you are told to line up and immediately start running. BJJ can take many many years of practice just to obtain a belt, and the technical aspects can sway one away after the first class.

For western style boxing it is simply just one dimensional. What is a boxer to do when he is sent to the ground? He is going to get his face pounded in, or is going to get choked out. Krav Maga has greatly improved my confidence due to the ability to walk away from the first class with techniques under me. And we all know the importance of confidence.

Certainly not Karate - once came first in my country in continuous sparring but even that level of skill wouldn't help in a street fight because the art simply isn't practical. I trained Muay Thai for about six months and I'd highly recommend that, as long as you can find a good gym (plenty of dodgy or unhelpful ones out there). Needs to be full contact and let you spar each other. If you don't go home with bruises, you're doing it wrong. ;)

Muay Thai for life. But I also feel that people shouldnt take up gym space unless they plan on competing.
Dont worry too much about grappling. If you know people in your gym who know what they're doing, just work with them. That grappling shit is homo anyway - no need to devote your life to it unless you're planning on fighting in MMA.
Also, dont worry about what military force does what. That's not fitness - it's kicking to the balls and poking eyes - you dont need lessons to know how to do that.

ALso - this brings me to a conclusion. I want to make a survey on whether girls prefer strikers or grapplers... I think they like strikers, you know guys who fight like real men
