I'm at a suburban (less bitchy) club on Halloween. An HB6 (obstacle) and HB7 are seated. HB7 looks like my type.

--- as I'm walking by ---
[Obstacle]: (lame comment on costume)
[PUA]: (lame joke about it)
[HB7]: (another lame joke)
--- I sit next to HB7 and look at Obstacle. ---
[PUA]: Oh, I could never date this girl. She seems way too nice!
[Obstacle]: She IS! She is too nice.
[PUA]: She looks so innocent, she reminds me of some Mormon girls I grew up with.
[Obstacle, turning head to HB7]: Oh my god, he said like a Mormon!
--- HB7 body language shows she's hurt but she tries to act playful ---
(More conversation. A couple DHVs. Obstacle tries to tease me but ends up looking silly. Then I do a little too much cocky funny.)
[HB7]: Well, at least I know not to insult people. (She tried to say playfully, but she was obviously hurt.)

They kept encouraging conversation and their body language remained open to me the whole time! That made me feel like I could have recovered, but how? statement of interest? A qualifier?

After this, I said I'm only teasing. Then I left - only because I didn't know what to do.

Gotta say this is more of a FU then an FR.
Delivery and expression is EVERYTHING when negging. Always remember that too much negging makes you look like an ass, and too little negging makes you look weird, if you choose to neg at all.

I'm not overly fond of negs, so I use them sparingly. But I thought that there was a formula somewhere and one should be very careful with using negs on HB8s or lower. If she's a sweet, sensitive girl you might not need them at all if she's not throwing a BS. In any case, I did once hurt a girl (HB8) with a neg without even realizing that I was negging because I was a completely unaware AFC at the time, although I think I did it out of "saving face" and did in case she was just giving me a reason why there was no way she could go out after her shift was over. In any case, this girl told me she was sick after I popped in out of the blue to meet her at her other job in a restaurant. I said something like, "yeah, you look a little rough tonight." It sounds mild, but she looked like she was about to cry and I might as well have punched her in the uterus. Despite the fact I was only minimally aware of game (like not giving tons of compliments and looking too needy), I recovered a bit (I knew this girl somewhat and had worked with here for a couple of months) and threw a few well placed compliments and built her up...

I think genuine compliments both direct and indirect can somewhat counteract excessive negs as long as you don't look incongruous. You might have also switched the frame and said something like, "well what's wrong with Mormon girls? I was in love with one once because her parents forbid our love." Yeah, it would be total bullshit. But then, maybe she shouldn't be so put-out by being compared to Mormons? I think there are much worse comparisons in the world...
