Now I find it easy in a relaxed enviroment to use an observational opener of something and then lead that into conversation - however if I am in the street, or just coming from somewhere and a girl is sitting on a bench for example - if I go directly over there it seems much more scary - even though I shouldn't care if she does not want to talk it just seems like a weird situation.

How would you suggest I'd open in that kind of case where you are not just randomly saying hi because she's next to you - but you go up there directly?

if its on the street make sure you have strong body language , good eye contact and just ask her for directions and then continue with routines and make conversation. and remember to smile lol.

I actually did this before and had success. I walked up to her and ask her where the closest bookstore was. Lucky for me she actually knew. I'm not sure what I would of said if she didn't know.

But yeah.. I opened with that... then changed the coversation topic. I ended up getting her number.

Daygame comes down to practice, try striking conversation with random people you don't know to get rid of your AA.
Say you buy a pair of jeans, ask a female employee what she thinks would look good on you (this will come in handy with other women who will think highly of you because you dress nice) and then try some tactics on her while you are talking (like stealth attraction for instance) and see how she responds.

for example walking to a set without showing too much interest just walking by then turn the head toward the set and launch an opener then possibly continue the convo etc.
if u don't want to be too direct in the opener just act like is not a big deal and you are asking an opinion to someone in general
