| I think your first problem was that you and your wing approached together, it kind of telegraphs "Me and my buddy are out tonight to pick up women." If you're going to approach a 4-set I think you would have better luck opening solo, throwing FTCs, neg(s), and then signaling for your wing to enter before giving him a nice accomplishment introduction. When you approach directly with another dude you might as well be asking "How about some dick?" Were you genuinely interested if they were religious or not? If your opener is something you wouldn't ask a fat girl, you're probably coming off too strong. It should appear spontaneous, non threatening, and involve an interesting conversational topic.
You didn't go into a lot of detail, but when going through sarges, make sure you loosely follow a model. I'm assuming when you asked for her number, you were still in set. If you're going for a # close attempt to at least isolate (which offers the best chance of getting a number) or go through enough DHV stories or routines that the entire set is comfortable with your presence. If isolation isn't working out and you want the #, take everyone's number in the set. How would you feel if some guy approached and entertained you and your friends only to have him leave 20 minutes later by randomly asking for your friend's number? His true intention came out.
Finally, when she said she had a BF she was probably lying to you. Girls do this all the time when they feel like they are getting hit on by a guy who is not desirable to them. In the context she used it, Im going to guess you displayed too much interest in her without first disqualifying yourself or attracting her first. If your game is solid, she will never mention her BF (even if she has one.) As a rule of thumb though, never display interest in your target until you are positive she is attracted to you.
edit. sorry for all of the (constructive) criticism. just keep working at it, memorize a few canned openers (make up your own!) or interesting routines and it will start to pay dividends. great first approach though, it sounds like you were able to hold interest for decent amount of time and didn't have a problem with AA.
