I have a rather unpopular opinion to express...

I have a suspicion that pickup videos really don't help.

Yeah, you read that right.

I think that getting caught up in the minutia of analyzing all the details of the pickup is more counterproductive in most cases than helpful.

I'm still open to hearing some contrary opinions that would help me understand if this might be wrong.

Have you had any "breakthroughs" that made approach and pickup any easier to do after watching a video of it?

And I'm talking repeated viewings. I think the first time someone new sees how it's "supposed to be done" in a video it's a big deal and a help. But after that it's not helpful.

Just keeps you up in your head...

Thoughts?

i think its good to re-watch them every now and then, when i mess up i might re-watch a part of a video that i wasnt clear on or that didn't stick. like going over your notes before a test. :)

I know what you mean, watching a video could get people all hyped up but then they forget what they learned. I suggest that if anyone wants to learn from a video, watch it many times, pause and visualize yourself doing these things naturally and hopefully you'll get the idea and actually use it the next time you talk to a chick. Yadadamean?

i disagree entirely..

videos give more of an incite into the aspects implicated into the actions.. and also helps with people who are visual learners..

for example.

the infield videos on youtube, are a demonstration of

-body language
-its an actual account on what happens to a pua infield.
-shows the viewer a lot on what they should and shouldnt do

instructional videos like
* gambler's stealth seduction
- demonstrates on a woman
- what you should do
- and what you shouldnt do

if you were reading what he was does you would definitly not understand what he was doing. as for infield videos well its not only a great educational experience its also a great marketing tool. its great to read about a #close or a Kclose but imagine seeing it happen. who ever first decided to record themselves talking about and doing game. shit. they were a genious.

as for actually implicating the methods from the videos, its gonna sound kinda corny but i personally used to take notes i have several journals that have interesting things in as well as field reports, what worked , what didnt work.

your entitled to your own opinion but thats just how i feel on the topic.

I think the pickup videos can be useful, but they're ultimately bad for you for two reason:

1. They encourage mental masturbation. It's a lot easier to watch an hour of video than do an hour of field work. Guess which one helps more?

2. They get you to focus on minutia, like you're saying. Instead of wondering when you should rock your body, why don't you actually sort out who you are as a person?

In short, videos can be useful, but they should be used sparingly.

Videos are good to get a general idea of correct body language, how to approach etc but at the end of the day you need to go out and sarge with your own style.

Good for a general idea, but don't try to copy it as a whole.

I disagree.

PU can be considered a performance art if you go with the unnatural / canned route.
And when you watch a video you not only get conscious competence with the material in the video and see what were your mistakes, but you also gain unconscious competence by copying what the guy in the video does.

Sometimes you get the right body language just by acting like you were that character you see on the screen.

Of course copying someone else isn't a definitive fix, but hey, you can get laid just by being an actor/performer until you naturalize this stuff.

i think they are very useful to take inspiration, for body language, voice tonality, energy and dynamics.

I disagree mate, PU videos help well, but only if you put the work in , in the field.
