In short NLP = Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a field of psychology that works with the theory that you can use words in certain patterns or langauges (NLP say we all speak different languages outside of our spoken language; Audio, Visual, and Kinesthetic) in order to guide people to what results we desire.

The main focus on *most* NLP techniques however is to restructure yourself for the goal you want. It teaches you how to re-wire thought patterns and how to achieve the goals you put forward. So for example: if you want to be a boss or manager in the company you work for, you would look to someone you favor and recognize his/her mannerisms, figure out what helped them get to where they are now, and mimic them.

There is a lot more to NLP than I just wrote, but its very extensive and complex to someone who hasn't really been exposed to it. When you are, most of it seems common sense, but in reality common sense isn't common.
