So I'll be heading back to school soon. I'll be living once again (unfortunately) on campus and in the dorms. They're VERY nice dorms with private bedrooms, they're more like an apartment than a dorm. However, we're not allowed to have any candles or anything nailed into the wall. So, my question to you guys is: What tips do you have to 'dress-up' a dorm room?

We're given a (matching) bed, desk and dresser...and we have a rather shallow closet with sliding doors (about as wide as a clothing hanger).

A few 'suggestions' of mine I'm thinking about, and of course would like your opinion on are:

Black Light(s) - Yes or no?
Shag Rug / Hairy Rug - Yes or no?
NON-Cliché Poster Ideas...? / Posters in general - Yes or no?

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Omg I had to live in a room with one other person that was like 20' x 15'. It was terrible.

As far as decorating goes, have all of your stuff with a matching tone. Keep your room clean along with some posters. Posters are a must or your room will look boring.

Black light will irritate girls' eyes. If you're doing a rug, just do a regular one that goes with the room tone.

Just keep the room neat and well-toned. Don't become an interior designer in stead of a pua :p

If you are allowed to paint I would sugest painting accent wall. I assume they will be 4 white-ish walls. Paint one anything but white that isn't to dark. It will help you got go insane, it make the room warmer and more welcoming. The most important thing is clean.

I know this is an old thread, but I felt compelled to scream in agony at the thought of someone having shag carpeting and a black-light in their bedroom.

I think the way a man's lair looks is very important. No girl wants to go home with a guy to messy cave. So clean is number one. Number two, get some good posters. Not the Animal House "College" poster or the Periodic Table of Sex Positions - good ones.
You can't go wrong with a poster of Marlon Brando or James Dean. Or Bogart. Get a couple vintage band posters too. And blow up some photographs of you and your friends (preferably the artsy ones) and post them above your desk in an attractive pattern.

Have a side lamp that can give a romantic glow to the room. Harsh overhead lighting is nobody's friend.

Get some books or movies that make you look smart. This way she has something to look at and comment on while you're making her a drink. A mirror too.

Speaking of drinks, always have a nice bottle of vodka or gin on hand with mixers and ice. Have a couple of nice glasses too, not red cups.

The bed should be the focal point, so have at least four pillows, and preferably six. Get a duvet for a down comforter. This will be softer and easier to wash than one of those yucky Bed, Bath, and Beyond comforters.
