i really dont like them, as some of you might have read in this forum, some guys get busted playing game, girls saying: that sounds like something from that vh1 show! or something.. and opinion openers all start out the same way (hey i need ur opinion on something, or, hey could u help us out we're arguing over something?) and that's why it's so easy getting busted.

i would rather use an opener that no one would think i rehearsed. maybe "accidentally" bump into someone in a store and say "hey look where ur going" to DHV (but then show that ur joking) and go from there, like: what were u looking at? oh ur looking for [blah]? ... and so on.

what do u think?

Those are all standard forms of openers, but opinion openers aren't garbage. Just because some people have watched the vh1 show doesn't mean everyone has, hell they don't even have vh1 in my area unless you have some crazy satalite. People ask other people's opinions all the time, so if someone says "hey that sounds like something from that vh1 show!" you just respond with "you must watch a lot of tv to think that someone asking you a question sounds like something from a show" or "really? what show are you talking about, I don't get vh1, but maybe I should go into show biz?"

yea ok, i get it.. maybe it's because im swedish, i feel that opinion openers are too forward. swedes are shy people, and we feel uncomfortable when confronted by strangers.

Thats why you should be using them. "The PUA is the exception to the rule". If everyone around is being all shy and non-confrontational, you wanna go up to girls and do something different, talk to them like no one else will. I've gone up to girls that I wanted to hit on and acted like I thought they were picking a fight with me. Its totally out of left field and they just don't know what to make of it.

Me: "Hey! I saw that look"
HB: "Huh? What look?"
Me: "You're trying to start something with me aren't you!" *shake my hands out and get into a fighting stance and give her her a bit of a sideways look with a slight smile*
HB: "What?! NO!"
Me: "Oh...I get it now. This is how you get guys to approach you isn't it! You're sly" (sly is kind of a neg because its like smart, but not quite as nice)

Another good one is to call them "evil". I usually get great responses when I tell a girl she's evil, but you have to say it right. Say everything else normally CF, but when you get to evil, you slow right down and say it like its sexual while looking into her eyes. Usually they punch you, but that's an IOI.

I think that you should've known by now that
people are the same everywhere...
And don't go around the forum saying what are people like
in your area because everybody will say the same.
Don't mean to be rude.

Opinion openers have their advantages, and some are easy to stack up multiple topics on them, so I vote yes.

EDIT: And I like the "Evil" thing, and does work well, thumbs up!

Very well said! Though it is a legitimate concern i would remind us all to focus on the delivery when using opinion openers. Opinion based questions weren’t invented by VH1, so exercise some serious conviction in your delivery and you should have no problems. Worrying about them bringing up the show should be of no tactical concern.

i never use opinion openers like that

i just say "hey what do you think of these????"

and i usually have what im asking about with me...like today...i bought some new sneakers over the weekend and they are "peacocky?" so thats what i asked

but to make it less serious it went like this

"hey what do you think of my ice creams....(before she could respond)but be completely honest....you can tell me you completely love them..."

blah blah it went on from there

Opinion openers have their place....but I dont think they should be the default opener now that VH1 exposes it.

I think the Mystery Method is weak when it comes to openers, I hate his openers. "Oh my god, did you see the fight outside?"

VH1 or not women in most big U.S. cities have heard guys using opinion openers in bars.. The problem I believe is if someone is using an opinion opener that someone that very night have used on the target then it becomes a big DLV point.. Because now a recovery is needed...

Secondly, opinion openers that are used on VH1 show have been around for so long that everyone whoever heard of Mystery's openers knows them.

The question of how a person can at least have the chance to convey his personality when women delight in shooting guys down when they hear openers that they have heard before from guys remains a challenge that is yet to be addressed in the community..

My understanding is that opinion openers are suppose to pull an people's hard wired emotions to help other people. Just don't use anything super canned or something dumb like "what kind of toothpaste do you think is the best?" try to use something that you might actually hear someone say at a party. Like "When i was walking here i saw two girls with their nosed pierced it seems to be really trendy now what do you girls think about nose peircing?" or something along the lines of that

I couldn't agree more. I've used it and inevitably a rumor starts and everyone is now trying to figure out who these 2 girls were. I should also probably mention that this was at a school dance for a small private college. But in a club it might, I stress might, be effective.

Compliments are always good openers when used in conjunction with a playful neg...

I dont really use opinion openers much. I think when youre first starting out doing cold approaches, you should used some canned stuff and some opinion openers but once youve opened some sets, Id drop the gimmick, its old and too many guys are doing it. If your a guy thats supposed to convey leadership and confidence then why would you walk around asking for people opinions? I just go right in, say hello, tease, flirt, bust, cold read, introduce myself, etc. Situational openers are good cuz its all in the moment and girls can instantly relate to whats going on.

yes i also think it depends on the situation too. at a party it seems easier to just go up and introduce yourself. if your in the mall, a girl may feel threatened by you just coming up and starting conversation or being introduced. an opinion opener makes it seem like your not looking to hook up with her. i say yes to opinion openers but they are not necessary sometimes.
