I live in NY and intern at a major newspaper. I also work in a state job strictly for college kids.

This HB8 starts talking to me at work about how we might get laid off and I tell her I'd email her what I know because of my place in the news biz.

I email her. And she emails me back, but not about work stuff. And she emails me the next day, pretty much just shooting the shit. We email for four days about random stuff. Flirty the whole time too.

She asks me to go out with her friends and goes out of her way to mention she is single.

I DHVed. I neged. I grounded stories. I was charismatic and the center of office attention. I did everything right. Well almost.

I gave her my number and told her to call me so she could tell me where to meet her, but she flaked. For some reason I wasn't surprised.

Somewhere in our weeklong convo's in email and in person, she mentions she is shy.

Now, the question is, did I over DHV (because shy=self conscious) and scare her off?

Since I work with this girl, I still have to see her, so I'd like to keep at this for a lil bit.

ANy suggestions?

Well your well on your way to banging this chick but of course she was going to flake on you after you gave her YOUR number. Try not to give a girl your number, unless she askes for it of course. Get HER number instead that way YOU are leading this "relationship" playa. She clearly is attracted to you, you've received the IOI's and now its all about building comfort and closing. Get her number, if don't already have it, and take her out whether it be the club, bar, etc.

You might want to do this in a group as it will seem non-threatening to her. Isolate her and then seal the deal. Once this happens just watch how fun your workplace becomes then
