We talked about it a little bit but i wanted to change the subject since it was a depressing conversation, so shes still talking about how she was crying then i decide to say " so are we gonna hang out on friday" then she doesnt respond. So i guess she must think im a jerk, but was it really that bad? I think Im gonna text her back in a day or two and start out by saying "so are you felling better today" do you guys think I can recover from this?

The "are we hanging out" was a good idea, kept her from getting too comfortable and friend-zoning you. But I mean, for "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT" moments, just KEEP YOUR COOL. Don't apologize, don't kiss up, etc. Make it clear that's what you want, and that's what you're going for.
You just can't give her the control. Don't text her saying "are you feeling better", text her saying "so are you that cranky all the time, or are you feeling better today?"
Similarly, don't ask "are we hanging out?". SAY "we should hang out friday" or "should I still let you hang out with me Friday?" with a little laugh.

ON A FRIDAY. You've SPAM your friday night too soon man, make girls earn your fridays and saturdays.
This girl sounds like a tuesday afternoon girl.
