I normally try to rely on my quick thinking when in the field but the other week I saw a HB8 I wanted to approach but my mind went blank. And I certainly was not gonna go "who lies more...?"

Later on, I thought this could be a default opener for a lone set:
"Hi. I want to ask, are you one of those girls that looks nice but is a total headcase?"

Yeah, let's start off the conversation with a judgmental attitude....DUDE!!!! How fucking hard is it to walk up to her and be like, "Hey, nice shoes, I bought my little sister the same pair, how are they treating you?"

That's why I thought I'd run it past people!
Although I'll probably try it anyway because
- it could be funny
- my english teacher in school said people love to defend themselves or declare their innocence esp when falsely accused
- if the answer's no you could ask "you don't think you look nice?"

With the shoes thing, yeah it makes sense but I don't like to lie in openers to be honest

Did your english teacher go into the details of what they thought of the person that they need to defend their opinions/values againts? You should ask him.
So you prefer to lead with making her feel like you view her as a total headcase? Your call. Jackb wasn't necessarly implying that you should walk up to a girl and talk about the soes, but his style of oppener would create a much more comfortable SPAM.

I think you're being a little hard on the Omega Man. I don't know if his opener is really the best opener but at least he's getting some opinions first. And honestly, almost any opener can work if you delivery it correctly. Calling a girl a headcase might be kind of hard to pull off, but I don't like opening with negs in general. I probably wouldn't use the shoe opener either. Negs in general can be tricky and a lot of people end up just flat out insulting girls. I tell people to avoid them until they start getting a little more comfortable with approaching.

Omega, you should have at least 3 standard go-to openers to use whenever you don't know what to say. Missing an opportunity to hit on a girl because your mind goes blank should never be a reason.

Agreed, I also must throw out there that I always love falling back on, "I'm lost, and I hate asking for directions, but I've been at this for a while. Could I get a second of your time to point me in the right direction?" Plays on all instincts that women have to help, but it can end pretty abruptly if you don't play up how "dumb" you are about getting around and take the quick directions and walk off.

Jack, that's a perfect go to opener. I use something very similar. One good thing about using a standard "go-to" opener is that you become familiar with their responses and you can start to develop really good follow ups.
