well about your limiting beliefs, i suggest to study some NLP to overcome it since it seems deep-rooted, these limiting beliefs will be gone like snow in the desert with some serious studying of NLP...
You say this very confidently. Do you have any suggestions for books or particular methods of NLP to study? I am currently reading a Paul McKenna book which has some NLP techniques, but it is probably not enough to be called an NLP book.
Regarding one of the other points made above. Wouldn't someone like Eckhart Tolle argue that you are not "that which thinks the thoughts". Rather I take his writing to mean that you are the "being" presence when there are no thoughts.
Well I have studied a lot of nlp books / seminars, but most of them only give the basics of NLP and not really practical information... Most of them are pretty worthless.... (skip cheap titles like : spirituality and NLP, NLP for a better health, NLP for fixing your car etc)
Like I will mention later, Derren Brown gives a nice list of NLP books in his book. (to bad i have lend it to a friend

so I can't give the list right away, but i have red most of them)
Just start of with 'turning frogs into princes' from Richard Bandler / John Grinder to get a good idea what NLP actually is.
After that read something like "NLP from dummies" there are some nice basic techniques for self improvement in there... also the early works of Bandler and Grinder are good.
'NLP Comprehensive' has some good dvd series for starters to experts... they are pretty expensive but worth the money (or time to look for a torrent

)
A book i really suggest for every PUA out there is "Derren Brown : Tricks of the Mind" ! (ISBN10 --- 1905026358)
Its just a small portion of NLP, but he gives a nice insight on how he uses this for his tricks, there are some very impressive 'bar/club' tricks in it, and a very good explanation about the pictures and movies in our mind (and how to influence them for both yourself and to other people) .
Also he gives a very detailed list of books on the end you could read, he mentions lots of good books about : body language, NLP, magic tricks, coldreading, "psychic tricks", hypnosis etc.... I think every PUA should atleast read this book once!!
I also like RSD with the 'blueprint decoded' he gives some nice insights about the stupidness of self limiting beliefs, so does David de Angelo in most of his seminars.
Also i recommend Style's annihilation method DVD's, there are some nice self image improving exercises in it.
