Howdy Again ..

By now you should have some experience with NLP and how it works. So now you should start learning how to get some results. The best way to do that is repetition ... that means repeating things over and over again so that you can develope patterns to follow and not have to think about every word.

I was selling my old car a few years back and the guy was asking me all kinds of questions and I wanted to just get it over with and make the deal ...

He asked me if I really liked the car and I started talking before I really thought about anything ..

I said "I have been driving this car for 3 years ... " and then I paused ..

.. thought about it for a second or two .. then I said " and she has been a dream !"

and that was it .. he pulled out the cash and I signed her over ... done deal.

So .. the rule is :

If you want someone to follow you in thought .... give them time to catch up !!


Lets isolate and deconstruct the mechanics a pausing shall we ? Another one of the fundamental principles in NLP is strategic pausing. Well placed pauses are the ones that you place just before the ... prime point you want to make. We talk this way naturally ... (sometimes anyway) ... so as you learn to manipulate your own language you will be able to use this right away.

Here is an example , take an ambiguous statement ...


That will put some cream in your coffee


and speak it OUT LOUD with a pause placed where .... the periods are.

That ... will put some cream in your coffee

That will ... put some cream in your coffee

That will put ... some cream in your coffee

That will put some ... cream in your coffee

That will put some cream ... in your coffee

That will put some cream in ... your coffee

That will put some cream in your ... coffee


.. now you can evaluate which one is the least sexy sounding and which one is the most sexy sounding. Hmmmm ... It's just an ambiguous statement ! How can that sound sexy ? Well once again ... it wont get you laid all by itself but when you start practicing this technique and realizing that even the most unassuming thing can take on a sexy feeling to it then you really have something.

That is the Key to NLP .... it is never what is actually said on the surface but rather ....

.. all the possibilities that could be just .... b-low it !!

I made some coffee pattern here on the fly to demonstrate the pausing skill:

... = pausing

- Do you like coffee?
(let her answer)
- Yes
(get some compliance)
- Good... 'cause I was reading the most interesting article about... coffee one day.
(grounding the pattern to an article + pausing to implant the idea of you 2 having coffee one day. Ha! )
- Well, there are really different ways of preparing and drinking coffee. Sometimes you want to put some cream in your... coffee. Sometimes you want to take it a different way. Because when you... REALLY LIKE THIS (sp), you want to... JUST RELAX... and drink it slowly. As you... FEEL THE EXCITEMENT... all through you body of having this warmth running through your throat you feel this awesome pleasure and want to take it multiple times. With me, that really happens, when I go to an awesome place that is well suited to make it. And the article recommended some good places. Have ever gone to place X?

Haha I just made this on the fly... but it's definitely good. I might use it to arouse her with some warm cream on the throat.

I would pay attention to the placement of the pause .. just like above where Cosy liked the connotations implied by placing the pause near the end of the sentence ... Where you place the pause changes the percieved meaning of what you say.


It's just Like when .... if you were to say ...


"Two lovers came together in rapture and entranced each other until the whole universed disappeared to them ... "

Now that could really put some .. .. cream in your coffee "


What happens is that the other person (the listener) is drawn into a tighter focus on what you say and that takes awareness of other things away. When you pause ... the other person starts generating responses ... you want to continue on before they begin communicating those responses in order to stear the next responses to your favor.
