This is just some weird form of status confirmation. She doesn't want to be with you until you drive a car because that would make you legal to drive and it also proofs that you have some form of money cause you've actually bought a car.

When i would been asked such a thing, i would smile and say yes.
That gives her a reason to ask why your actually smiling: "oh girl you don't want to know what i do in my car, but some-a-day you will find out" or something like that.

you are right, its a status confirmation shit, i hate them,
