I read some materials saying that the main reason men today lack self confidence in not only dealing with women but also in everyday life is because we were not properly initiated to becoming real adult men. We lack understanding in what it means to be men. We were also not psychologically and physically conditioned to be men.

Because we did not participate in any rites of passage initiating us into manhood, we are psychologically and physically unprepared and unsure in our status as men. This is the root leading to our lack of self confidence.

Some of you may have read about traditional rites of passage for men in some communities. This was meant to initiate boys into manhood. It does really make sense in many ways. Read this: Penis Enlargement and Native Tradition

David DeAngelo has also given a talk about this (ref - video Man Transformation)

What do you think guys ? Feedback appreciated.

I've thought about this one a lot. Even considered going out into the desert with nothing but a knife and a canteen for a week. The problem is how would this be adapted to modern life.

Some cultures have things like this still, though it is mostly "adulthood" rather than manhood for ceremonies like bat/bar mitzvahs. I'm told that in Hindu/Indian culture it is a big deal the first time a man shaves.

It doesn't have to be slaying a buffalo with a pocket knife, but when I'm a father I think I'll construct something for my son and tell him "you are a man now" at some point.

I always just felt like my first lay was a defining moment in my manhood.

What are these "rites of passage"?
