The thing about opinion openers is they're usually completely off topic. They're great for opening a regular set, but when you get the super hb10s they're not gonna fall for it. Why would you go to a bar to ask a girl that? (or wherever you are for the matter) I'm not saying to rule out opinion openers altogether, but try to ask something that has to do with what's going on.

If you're in a grocery store ask something about the food and that your gay friend recommended it to you, but you're not sure if you should because he also has a girlfriend and what kind of gay guy has a girlfriend.

It's better not to pop in something random, unless it's completely ridiculously out there. Watch out though shooting in at this angle. It's ok to be the funny guy but you don't want to be a clown.
