Saturday night - approach and open 5 set with two FCs (Fat Chicks), one HB6, one HB7, and one HB8 testing out new opinion opener I had just come up with an hour before after being challenged to come with with an opener involving a turkey baster, "Turkey Baster and Tequila". I approach at a slight angle and keep one shoulder in the group and rock back as I start with the dominant FC and the HB8 on my side left. "Quick question for you guys then I have to return..." Right there, that was all it took for the dominant FC to call me out. She turned to one of the other FCs and said, "He's been watching that Mystery show on VH1. I was wondering how long it was going to take some guy to try this shit." I was stunned like some one just hit me in the forehead with a hammer. By shear momentum I kept going. "You have seen the show - that is great (laughing) - what do you think?" She replies that she thinks it is BS and that Mystery is a freak. She would never go for a guy like Mystery. He is ugly. We then enter into a brief discussion about Mystery and his show. At this point the hammer to my head starts to take over. I get into my head panicking for how to save this set and can't get out. The set is still warm though and I keep pointing this out to myself. I recover for a moment as I neg the target (with something that involved a peanut butter and jelly sandwich analogy that was getting everyone laughing) and get IOIs along with getting light IOIs from the HB7 across the group. The dominant FC starts a conversation that centers around the neg and she starts trying to validate the HB8 target while the HB8 continues staring up at me with a big IOI smile and trying to sheepishly validate herself. At this point I feel relief - I have gotten blown out of the water by something everyone has been dreading, but I stuck it. Confidence swells up inside of me and I am ready to press on and even keep using material. Suddenly the dominant FC swings the conversation back around to Mystery's show and asks where the cameras are, where mystery is, and looks around the room for someone with a camera. Anxiety quickly replaces my hard earned confidence and I am back in my head. Stumbling around in my head I search for another recovery. I come across Style's "I know the author bit" and some how it comes out of my mouth as being part of the local chapter. F#@K, I just ran into the fire not away from it. How did that come out. A quick glance at the HB7 and the HB8; I am still getting IOIs. The girls seem entertained by the notion and are running with the conversation. Finally the anxiety just gets to much to bare and I eject from the group with a, "ladies, it was a pleasure." I returned back to some of the boys from http://www.txpualounge.com and told them what had happened. A look of terror came over their faces and then we all broke out into laughter. "It was bound to happen to one of us sooner or later."

After the dust settled in my head I realized for all intensive purposes my set never got cold just really uncomfortable for me. They never shut me out and they never told me to leave. In fact I was still getting IOIs from the target and a HB7 bystander in the group all the way up until I ejected. Even the primary obstacle was still engaging me in conversation. My problem was that I was in my head and let my anxiety take over.

Yah, Mystery's show was what got me into this, but now that I'm in I want that god damn show off the air.

Nah.Keep the show on air.It makes for great entertainment.

I hate fat chicks so much, there often rude, pissed off and if they sense they have a chance with you.. like for example you may have just been friendly/polite and gave them a smile at some point, they dont leave you alone. Seriously to all fat woman, either lose weight or stay at home!

Too many fat (or "fattish") chicks in Finland, impossible to avoid them... Basically every hot/ok girl has a fat friend(s). Thin girls are in the minority here.

I think that the FC's just really have a low self esteem. Possibly they may get some validation in being a manager because it boosts their self esteem up a little in the way that they still get a chioce in a hook up for the night, just not themselfs, for their friends. I'm sure they must get the shits with all the guys ignoring them and only talking to their friends. Hey, if your an afc you are going to go stright for the HB's and not the FC's right? I know I have done it sooooo many times lol. Like everyone has said before the best way to stop them cockblocking is take their attention first and maybe this will raise their ego up a little. But then it does get hard because if you only validate them and dont approach their friends they will suspect something, espically if they have seen form mystery's show. What is the fine line to walk?

Sounds like you had a bit of a challenge on your hands. Well if you put pickup to the side for a second and focus instead on psychology, as far as swapping frames is concerned, your best method is to blitz through it and change the subject.

"Yeh I have seen that show a few times, but I don't think it works. If I want to meet a girl, I just go up and be myself. It makes more sense to me to be myself than to put on a routine just so your hot friend here will fancy me."

Some people might say that was afc, but if you nod in the HB's direction as you say it in a disdainful kind of way, it's almost a neg. Like she is not worth putting on a routine for.

You can then completely re-frame and swap across to what was going to be your original opener. Work the FC as usual, and run a normal routine. If the FC insists on bringing up VH1 or whatever, just talk about it like you don't really care about it, then swap back to the fun stuff when you get the opportunity. Show them how to moonwalk. That works for me.

this is funny, because this JUST happened to me tonight. I just met up with my local lair, and we saw a 6 (I think) set, with 2 fat chicks, and 2 hb's. I went up for a glass of water and a shot of Jack. I aproached, and said "Hey, I have a question, but I'll only be a second. Me and my friends where just talking and....". A fat chick shut me off and said she saw the show. I tried to turn it around, and said "What show", they said the Pick Up Arist, and Mystery, and I said 'Mystery, you mean Eric". At this point I ejected, and I sat down. My wing Wane went up and asked them about the show, but he coudln't lock in. He wend down to our table, and we all went up to the bar, and They aproached the bar and we took this as an IOI. It was no longer my set, and I was too far away to make convo.

They did ask me if I flossed before or after I brushed at the bar.
I was going to use Jeolous Girlfriend.

I am currently thinking of a way to turn this into a DHV.

And yes, I don't like fat cockblockers.

Hahahaha, the moonwalk is a kiss close in itself. I have used it on two different chikcs in the same night and kiss-closed but then ruined the rest of it up. Where abouts are you guys from? Is the Mystery show big over there?
