The key to this not being a big deal to let someone go is in how you setup the relationship when you first meet a woman. If you are clear when you talk to her that you like her but you're not out for a relationship right now until you find the right now, then she can't really say anything. Then if she still chooses to have sex with you then she knows what she is doing.
Then that always leaves you the out with a girl that you met someone new and you think she might be the right one for you. Most women at that point realize that they knew you weren't going to commit to them and you found someone that makes you happy so this generally goes pretty well.
Since you are already down this road the best thing you can do is towards the time you want to break up slow down how much you talk to her, see her, and make sure not to have sex with her too soon before the breakup. About that time she'll get the hint that she's not #1 in your thoughts and she'll see the signs. It won't come as a shock to her making her bitter and violent.
