There are a few girls there, but they're mainly sitting around texting or talking with their friends. There's no dancefloor or anything. Not much to talk about.

What kind of openers do you use for a situation like that?

I've been there.. one time I just kept looking at my watch to indicate i was bored and didn't want to be there and then one of the girls noticed and ask are you going somewhere after this or you meeting up with someone?

Then I just replied no, its past my bedtime with a smile afterwards of course

In the town that I live in, it is almost always dead. Except for when college is in session, the targets are few and far between. So I know exactly what you mean when you are asking how to open.

My favorite opener for situ like this is go up and introduce myself. Just "Hey, I'm Tov." If the girl is sitting with a group of friends, I walk up, say Hi, grab a seat, and start talking, running routines, what have you. Worked every time for me thus far.

If you see a girl sitting alone, texting, you could go up to her and say something like "So are you texting your get-away car? Can I hitch a ride because I think I need to get out of here." from there on you can continue with stuff like "so how did you end up here/where do you know *party host's name* from?"

well if it's boring then you are completely plausible using a opener that lays the emphasis on the BORING/BORENESS of the venue.
i would say something like '' who got burried today ?'' ''looks like ww2 remoriam day''

she : uhhh wtf ?
me : well it's so boring here , i guess their was a funeral or something today

I've actually found that slower parties can work to your advantage. People go to parties looking for fun, so if they're sitting around doing nothing, bring the fun to them. Go right up to them with whatever your game is and start making jokes and bringing them closer into the main room. Run game, bullshit, get to know them, and kino escalate. Usually they'll be so happy that the night is finally looking up that you can use the momentum to go for a number close or whatnot. If the room seems down, then it's your duty to bring her up. Make sense? As long as you're making it obvious that you're here to have a good time, then the vibe of the night will start to change for the better. Granted you could just challenge the clicks to a drinking game like Kings to liven up the spirits before making your move. Either way, turn the energy from low to high, and use the momentum to push forward. Sort of a mental jujitsu. Much luck.
