Hey everyone, so yesterday I was talking to a bunch of people on the bus and I came up with this routine:

The Harry Potter House Routine

You: You know... having tirelessly directed my thoughts to it for the past two weeks non stop... I have decided that I'd be a hufflepuff. I mean let's face it, I'd love to be a gryphendorian, but it's just not in the cards. (or alternatively you could proudly proclaim yourself a gryphendorian or whatever, sillyness is a virtue in this one though) How bout you, which house would you be in?

Her Response:
A.
Her: I'd be in Gryphendor.
You: Oh SUUURE Everyone wants to be the chosen one! Look lady, we'd all love to be in Gryphendor, but you don't look very courageous and daring to me.
B.
Her: I'd be in Slytherin:
You: Oh, so you're a bad girl eh? You just want to achieve your own ends and you don't care how many hearts you break or people you curse along the way! Well I'm glad you told me the truth! I'm getting outa here on the next hogwarts express! (Actually maybe not the hogwarts express bit, gotta be as non-specific as possible just to make it extra silly, still, I like the pseudo "you're not my type" bit, and throwing in a time constraint is probably a good idea... but saying hogwarts express comes off kinda nerdy... what do you guys think?)
C.
Her: I'd be in Hufflepuff.
You: Well either we're soul mates or you are incredibly unimaginative and i've got my money on the latter. Convince me, a REAL, hufflepuffer --that's the good thing about saying your from hufflepuff, you can get a few giggles just by saying it in different ways. Hufflepuffite, hufflepufflian, hufflepuffeese, hufflepuffer if you say any of them with confidence a lot of chicks will think you're pretty awesome-- that you should join the ranks of the hufflepuffans.
D.
Her: I'd be in Ravenclaw
You: Wow, so you're pretty much a harry potter nerd eh? I mean Ravenclaw? Really? Is that even a house!? Ok, so what makes you say Ravenclaw? (Cause really, if they answer Ravenclaw they're going to know what they're talking about).

I dunno, it actually kinda worked last night I just went on a big rant of it on the bus ride down there and the whole group loved it, and I was just making stuff up. Last night I mostly was the person telling other people what houses they were from but I think I like the asking which house thing better as a conversation thing. From there you could also get a good idea of what sort of routine to throw in next based on how much they enjoyed this piece. It's got a little bit of a "what's your sign"/cube-routine feel to it, plus some silliness ("everything that was funny when you were in grade 2 is funny again"), plus some excellent possibility for negs and if you work it right it could be an opener (almost like Mystery's poltergeist opener... kind of).

I dunno, what do you think? Like it? Don't like it? Things you would change?

Keep in mind this is more for girls around ages 19-24.

It would work but only if the girls of course knew about Harry Potter.

So I recommend setting it up by saying, "I don't know why but I perceive you as a big harry potter fan.."

You just narrowed your selection of women to ones that read harry potter. If you focused on something more neutral, says Sex in the City, or some celebrity, you would be more successful.

...this doesn't mean you've lost. The above suggestion is very good, because if you happen to do catching them liking harry potter. you will build comfort much easier with the this common interest.

my two cents

If you by chance go to the Harry Potter convention... then you indeed have a good routine. I wouldn't ask it to a HB10 in a club though. It's like asking a hot girls World of Warcraft account nickname.
Friend of mine did it... still makes me laugh. Especially her reaction. It was the most perfect "OMG what the ***** did you just ask me-face" I've ever witnessed.
