Right now is one of those times when this ellusive 'it' is definitely switched off and has been for some time. I'm also feeling pretty depressed. Currently on a gap year where I'm working either on education (Blasted resits) or to earn money. My good friends have all gone to university and I've been left with people I get on with well but don't have anything close with. I haven't spoken to these guys about this (mostly girls actually) as not to appear needy and looking for someone to cling onto as there's noone else. I think one of the questions I'm asking is "How do I make new friends?!" Currently, one of my personality traits is to go too far with banter on people I don't know that well. It almost goes to insulting and on a few occasions it has crossed that line. I'm trying to pull that sort of behaviour out of my head. I'm looking for advice on how to build repore (sp?) and how to make friends basically. Not for pickup! Litterally just to go out with. I'm becoming desocialised so struggle in social situations.
I'm trying to boost my frame and get into a good mindset for travelling next year so I can practise my pickup over the course of a couple of months around the world.

Last night was the final straw when I was burned out by my mates who are currently still in the area, also on a gap year. Had the classic "why weren't you there" And "Why weren't you out last night". I really feel like shouting BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T FRICKING TELL ME ABOUT IT YOU WITCH! But that sounds too needy, right?

It's rediculous because I thought talking to people and making friends was something that i was brilliant at - I made it to boys captain of my sports team and head boy of the school blah blah blah. But these past few months I'm just becoming a social recluse. I NEED A BEST FRIEND!

Summary:
How do you think I should get closer to these guys?
Is there any good litterature on the subject of making friends?
What's the best book to build frame?
I need a night out - preff London/southeast.

Many thanks,
Niceboy

I suggest you read Dale Carnegie's "How to win friends and influence people". This book will teach you a lot about relationships and people in general. After reading it and applying the concepts he spoke about, my social life improved dramatically.
