While I was trying to compose this post I realized that this subject of what it is to be a man just can not be fit in one post. So I decided, to start small, and post different parts that could than be put together to fit a description.. what is a real man.
So I will be posting different post and by doing that, get the message across.

But first, what qualifies me to talk about what is a real man? Nothing.

I have been however studying this stuff for a long time. I started to study it for myself, because I really felt like there is something much more than what I was.
I discovered that there is. There is so much more at being a man than what society thinks. So this is just my humble contribution to this forum, just posting my experience.

So take posts for yourself, think about them and leave a comment about your progress.

So lets start with this. Its from a program of david deangelo on being a man.

The description of a real man, Maximus Aurelius

" Maximus set an example of self-mastery, steadiness of purpose and good cheer that no circumstances, not even illness could extinguish. He combined in beautiful measure gravity with charm and did whatever needed to be done without making a fuss. Everyone believed that what he said was what he thought and that he would never acted with an intention to do harm or give offense. Nothing surprised or frightened him and he never seemed to be in a hurry or slow to acomplish a task. He was neighter intimidated or embaressed on the one hand nor agressive and suspicious on the other. So giving, forgiving and loyal was he by nature that he appeared to be a man whose virtues were inborn rather than acquired. It is unimaginable that anyone ever felt inferiour or superior arround him, perhaps as a result of his pleasing sense of humor. "

Think about this description for a minute. Do you know anyone in your life that is like that?

Would you feel good if somebody described you in this way?

Read the description couple of times, and think about it while you go your day.

Instead of maximus, put your name in the description and read it.. and notice how you feel.

I will let this poem speak for itself ;)

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

–Rudyard Kipling-

I believe that Kipling has said it all already
Cheers
Jez

theres this great song "sowing season" by brand new that features a couple lines from that poem, i had a real wtf moment when i read it because of that :)

on topic: david deangelo talks about this in a series of youtube videos, its just the beginning/promo for the actual program but i think for inspirational purposes the first hour or so works just fine:

(there are seven parts total)

one interesting aspect he talked about was that in his opinion many if not most "men" are in fact boys on the inside, pretending to be men, trying to act like men, getting older but never developing the qualities that define a man.

im only 18 myself and kind of in the middle of becoming whatever i will become, waiting for deeper changes to happen, so that was kind of a terrifying observation, really.
