If you're at a department store, and she's not engaged with anyone else, just walk up and open like you normally would. Understand that your game should be a little slower, because it's day-game and day game is always a few steps down on tempo. Take your time, enjoy the process, and draw it out a bit.

If she's at a counter, with a huge line, and a sour expression on her face, go away. She doesn't want anything to do with you until she's not busy. She has more important things to worry about than a cute guy in line, no matter that he has something cool to talk about.

Somewhere in the middle? Feel free to open, and talk, and flirt, and use her work as a time constraint. "Hey, I should let you get back to work. But I'd like to talk to you again sometime. Is there some way we can arrange that?"

I AM GUESSING SHE WORKS A FAST FOOD JOINT AND IF YOU PLAN TO GET HER NUMBER IN ONE VISIT, YOU USUALLY HAVE TO BE VERY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS OF ANY SORT DUE TO MANY FACTORS:
1. THERE IS A LINE BEHIND. IF THERE IS NO LINE BEHIND, LESS INTERRUPTIONS.
2.USUALLY CONVERSATION GOES AS FAR AS HOW FAST YOUR ORDER IS MADE
3. DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH FREEDOM HER BOSS ALLOWS HER TO TALK DURING THE JOB, A BOSS WHO IS NOT ON DUTY IS ALWAYS A PLUS
4.DO YOU KNOW ANYBODY AT HER JOB? USUALLY, THEY CAN WING FOR YOU WHILE YOU ARE ORDERING YOUR MEAL AND GETTING THE NUMBER
5. DO YOU WANT TO CLOSE THE DEAL OVER A PERIOD OF TIME OR CLOSE THE DEAL SOON. IF YOU CAN FIGURE THIS OUT, THEN YOU KNOW WHAT IS NEEDED TO SEAL THE DEAL.

I have almost the same type of approach all the time.
I use direct method, because I'm congruent with it.
So, in this case, I can use 'I like you' type of opener in any kind of situation.

You can wait your turn to order and then 'ILY' opener, or say 'excuse me' to someone who is already ordering something like a gentle person and ILY to this girl.

I admit that I have almost no idea about indirect, so I'm not telling you how to do it that way

To get back in the topic, I am speaking from memory because its been a while since I PU at a mall food court or at a mall fast food joint. You raise good points. I will even take it a step further because I come from the community of PUAs that specializes in MALLology, mackin at malls. Well, usually, you need to set a timeline before you go into PUA mode at your goal. I mean, it seemed like you been checkin out the HB for a while but just haven't made your move. I am guessing your a frequent customer, so I would give yourself extra time. When you said, "order", I am certain its a service business in the mall. It may seem difficult but its all PUA mathmatical calculation. You calculate and prioritize your game plan, prepare for the risks, and use the resources near you to seal the deal. OK, back to the situation....If you are impatient PUA then I would vitalize the potential of her co-workers. If you know somebody at her work....Let that person wing for you. If you don't recognize a friend,just use them to make your mack approach last as long until you can seal the deal. Sometimes you have to PUA mode on two individuals at the same time to get to that one HB. Visual clues about her personality is usually a challenge for fast food HB employees, but seeing one clue is all you need. If you know how to stretch a conversation over her butterfly tattoo and how you think its the best in the world, go for it. Making it the least obvious in pick up is the best because maybe they been tried being macked on the whole day. Sometimes Mall employees just need someone to talk to about simple stuff.
