I am currently taking a year off of college. I thought it was the right decision at the time and now I have to follow through with it. My grades where slipping and I was on the brink of being kicked out of school (2.0 gpa). My plan was to work, sarge and save up some money on the side (haha or try to at least) and in the process get motivated to finish college. I couldnt have picked a worse time to take a year off. The economy blows. Ive been out of a job for over a month and ive been applying like mad. To make matters worse, my car blew an apex seal so I dont even have transportation. To top it all of, im living with my parents. Getting numbers isnt a problem, I got that on lock, but I am at a loss of what to do afterwards with my given situation. Bringing girls back to my parents house isnt cool. I dont have a car to drive them around in or the cash to spend on them. Im sharing this with the forum to get me more motivated and get suggestions. I know some of you will flame me for taking a year off, but I made my decision and have to live with it. Mystery talked about the three legged stool with the legs being health wealth and relationships and all of them have to be in balance. I have health and some relationships but the wealth part is really bringing me down. BLAH!

It happened to me a few years ago and unfortunately getting a job is the only way I could find to solve the problem. Keep sending CVs like a madman and see what can you do in the meantime to be more attractive for a possible employer (i.e: learn new skills). Happy job hunting :)

Focus on the rest of your life first.

Once you get the basics settled, you can work on your game. It's hard to *SINCERELY* pull off a DHV if your identity is tied to you stopping college, losing a job, and not having a car to drive around in.

Something I want to say. Having a steady job or at least some kind of job is good. But it's not everything. I've been out of job and penniless and dating at the same time many many times in my life. I'm not saying it's easy but it can be done. It's a matter of how you portrait yourself. It really is. Having plans is sometimes nearly as good as having a good job. Having ambition is something. Having potential. You can accentuate your freedom at the moment. You are the opposite of a boring 9 to 5 -man. You could create an artist-like character of yourself. Anyway, these are my thoughts. I've been there.

Its shitty timing mate, but its not all bad news. There's plenty of other things you can do to fill the time (Although probably not the bank balance. Don't worry about it though, plenty of time to fix that as the economy improves.)

It sounds like your pretty restless, so, go travelling for example? If your in the US, There's plenty of odd day work on farms and similar stuff you can get to fund you as you go (thats how I managed my crazy madcap tour of the US last year). Or in non-english speaking countries you can get by teaching english. You'll get used to meeting people (Its hard not to make friends in youth hostels) and have a hell of a DHV story to tell. With the exception of some bits of Europe (especially the UK), its pretty cheap to get around so long as your willing to take time for long train and bus journeys. (Greyhound ftw!)

Or throw yourself into whatever other interests you have? Just don't stagnate on the sofa, at the very least keep plumbing away for work. Last time I went job hunting I made a good 400 applications over 4 days. Only 3 got back to me, one is now my employer. The works there still, you just have to put more energy into finding it than anyone else.

hey man, can't say i feel ur pain, but i've helped alotta ppl get somewhere from ur position. one thing i learned is the friends can make all the difference. get a strong circle of strong friends that'll rub some of there strengths on you. its a proven fact that you are who you associate urself with.

also, as far as the job thing, 70% of jobs are attained by "knowing" somebody. so whether it's somebody who works there or somebody who knows somebody who works there, u need the hook.

with that said, think of it this way: Instead of just turning in app after app, go "job sarging". seriously. next time ur out and happen to talk to somebody, ask them what they do for a living, game them. this'll be the perfect segway into asking them if the company is hiring. go out with the sole purpose of job sarging.
