I just got out of a long relationship, am 24, live in upstate NY, and basically want to build a great life that includes lots of female friends. This forum has been a great resource in getting started and I hope to help others.
This is a random but timely opener that got me into some good sets this weekend. This also works well online.
Almost every girl loved Patrick Swayze. He just died so it's a hot topic. I like opening some eye contact and a smile, "hey, what's your favorite patrick swayze movie?"
You can say some bullshit about a poll, disagreement with friends about the best one, or whatever. Girls will take any excuse to talk about something fun like this, I think.
99% of the time they'll say Dirty Dancing. This is where you can say something disqualifying, like "whoa, i didn't think you'd be such a big feminist when it comes to the Swayze," or kind of do a cold read on personality traits (google feminism and patrick swayze and dirty dancing and a great article from the Guardian will come up about it) and say something like "Nice, I only date girls who don't put Baby in a corner," (use the article to elaborate).
I believe that the first comment is a playful neg and the second is a demonstration of higher value by showing that you are choosy.
I'd appreciate feedback (i.e. this is a waste of time or here is how it can be better) and some fill ins: for example, what do you do with the girl who says Ghost? I think if she says Road House she is awesome and would enjoy talking to you simply about the movie's funny parts.
Let me know what you guys think.

Do some wise word substitution. Like say i don't speak to girls who would put baby in a corner. and that article you mentioned will cause some turbulence in the convo because nobody will know what your talking about.. Make the story short and sweet, or find something else that will portray the 'higher value" theme that you stress. Overall really good though..
