I was talking to a couple of girls, and my target says "so, what's with the beard, it's summer?"

I just turned to her and said "Shut up, you love it" and turned back to her friend and continued the conversation. I said it with a slight smile, and my tone was ambiguous enough that she didn't know if I was being funny or serious. Ended up number closing her.

I've found the best way to evade any comment is to stroke the females chin or cheek and simply say "How cute." Then continue conversation as if nothing happened.

I like Sixtopher's and Srimpboi's answers better then the other two. You don't have to destroy her. Unless you CLEARLY get it across as a joke, you risk antagonizing her. The 'your cute' or 'you like me' line won't destroy the attraction you have generated even if it backfires.

Maybe unless you are dealing with perfect 10s or whatnot, but even then. By going agressive in your remarks you make it appear as if she hit the mark and makes you sound childish.
