been out of social interactions entirley for about 2 months and im going to college in september, my friends basicly abondened me since the holidays started.

so ive had no friends to go out with and all ive been doing is sitting in and watching tv, playing mmorpg's, staying up to about 6am and sleeping till 3pm. trying to break out of the cycle but theres really nothing to do where i live, im going to start working out and making my sleeping patterns better that might be a good start but the main thing im worrying about is my social shyness that has started to appear from being away from people for months, i used to have slight nervous things i used to do like occasionly i would bite my lips but recently i went out in public and i was playing with my hands and getting freaked out lol. it sounds really stupid saying it but i havent been wanting to go out anymore or just do anything at all, i dont know whats wrong with me. is it possible to have depression without knowing it?

my parents made me go see a doctor a few days ago because i slept in so late (not telling them that i was staying up late too) but the doctor dident even mention depression as a viable option. ive got nothing at the moment, im just here waiting for college to begin but wondering if i can handle it.

I'm not a doctor so I can't say that you don't have depression. In my opinion, you have just developed bad habits. It's definitely easier said than done, but you must do all you can do break those habits. Motivation is the key to breaking bad habits, in order to garner that motivation try reading some quotes. Replace the bad habits with good ones, for example, if you feel like staying up late playing games, read a book instead. When you go back to school, hit up the gym in the morning and before you leave campus. It's not going to be easy, but keep in mind, nothing of value comes without hard work.

You won't necessarily know that you are depressed, but if you are worried about it talk to a doctor they'll be able to help with that. For example a few years ago when I went to the doctor about sleeping problems, I instead got diagnosed with depression, which I hadn't realised, I just thought that was how everybody felt.

But trust me on this I have been there and if you are on the road to it, it's good to stop it early. It is a downward spiral if you don't know anybody and are never going out, and just playing computer games / watching TV with no other obligations in your life.

DO go to the gym, it will help your confidence and exercise will help you sleep and make you happier, doctors even recommend running because it really helps with depression.

Habits are hard to break, a change of scenery will help, or some friends that will get you doing stuff, or somewhere you need to be (college will help). If you have nothing that you need to do like a job or school then the stuff you enjoy like playing video games will leave you unsatisfied and that is the road to depression.

I highly recommend running in the morning because it gets your energy up for the day and it motivates you to break bad habits. If you have been doing this for two months straight, even with people around you in college you might still be tempted to stay in. Definetly try running or excercising. :wink:
