There's been tons of studies done on this, and people love being called by their name. That's why Starbucks writes your name on the side of the cup and calls you by name when your drink is ready. They used to just call out the drink.

In basic sales training, one of the first things you learn is to say the customer's name over and over. This gives the customer a feeling of connectiveness with the saleperson.

The more I read this form, the more I realize that picking up girls is like selling a car.

Im terrible with names so theres been a few times where Im number closing and realize ive forgotten the name. So what i do is just ask how they spell their name and then Ive got it. Ive even had girls with really simple names like 'Jen' or 'Sam' reply and not even think about it. I suppose you could do the same thing without number closing. Say something like "Hey how do you spell your name?" And then be like "I was just wondering because I have a friend with the same name but she spelled it weird." or something more clever than that... you get the idea.

I'll usually say (if I can't think of her name)
Hey uh....don't tell me. It starts with a constanant or vowel.

I forget names on a set by set basis. I am horrible with names. Normally cause I dont care to remember unless I know someone with that name already. I find that it may be an IOD but at the same time if they are interested it will get them to chase. But yes if you really want to remember their name or make it look like you do, use it in regular conversation. Or make an excuse that the music obscured your ability to hear what she said. Easy enough to get past though, just think quickly on your feet.

Like mentioned earlier, you could also tease her by giving her a comical nickname that pokes fun at something shes wearing or something about her mannerisms. It's playful, she doesn't know you forgot her name, and if used early enough can be a neg.
