In fact, me personally, I don't even like to use them online because they can come off as insults if done incorrectly due to a lack of tone-of-voice. That can be somewhat corrected with the use of smileys or once you have talked to her for a bit and she sees it fits your personality, but still, I don't like them online.
Aside from sounding funny, it sounds like she didn't take it too well. Instead of her seeing it as a flirt, she is responding to it like "No shit. Why wouldn't it be?".
