Check out a book called "Body by Science" next time you are in a book store. As stated in the post, I'm not going to regurgitate what they say better( and have endless sources/research/studies and enough citations to choke a horse with, behind every word they say).

Listen I skimmed the whole thing you wrote, the part I quoted caught my eye, I just want to know oneee thing. Suppose I was to run for 1hr and did this for a month straight, you are telling me that I'm not going to lose fat?!? Believe me I have done many different cutting techniques (diet w/ no cardio, cardio w/ no diet, and diet w/ cardio) and the ones with cardio included showed a significant difference in weight loss. It's a mere fact that burning X amount of calories will lose Y amount of fat. Listen I'm not trying to be a dick by any means, just completely disagree with a large part of what I read. You may have just given me a great excuse to go to Barnes & Nobles, and while I'm there I might as well try that opener with the Dating for Dummies book 8)

That is the most ignorant post I've ever read. That author has absolutely no idea what he is talking, and people should not believe that whatsoever.

Cardio has so many health benefits besides just fat burning. If you want to maintain your systemic health as well as tone up... the only way is through cardio.

Do you not see the mechanism behind it? Your body needs almost 5 times the amount of energy as your basal metabolic rate when doing cadio. Once you run through your muscles glycogen then it starts to target other sources of fuel...aka your body fat. Have you ever seen someone on a row team with excess body fat? I mean seriously how dumb can you be?

Cardio increases your blood pressure temporarily (lowers your resting bp), maintains endothelial integrity, strengthens your heart, increases efficiency of neural pathways to your whole body, i could go on forever.

There are direct correlations to numerous diseases from being sedentary and not engaging in cardiovascular activity. People who write shit like that just bother me and should seriously do us all a favor and end themselves.

I clearly stated, in the blog, that there are obviously benefits to doing "cardio", versus sitting around on your ass all day.

Read Body by Science, I'm a group ex instructor, not a doctor and famed personal trainer.

I simply wrote this post to help dispell the myth that low intensity steady state exercise is effective (for ANY meaningful metabolic adaptation), or even necessary for good health, because, it's not.

If cardio isn't good why have I lost so much weight and gained muscle from eating properly at the same time? GOD MUST LOVE ME... I do 45 minutes of cardio every other day and workout on my Cardio "off days" and due to cardio I have lost weight and I can now fit into old jeans I used to wear and still be too big for me, to give you an example ( was size 47 now size 34 waist on jeans ) Must be a mystery if cardio is pointless. btw my diet consisted of alot of protein and not too many calories and things with over 10% MAX of fat in them, fat = a no no for gaining muscle :(

Stop doing cardio and see how fast you gain the weight back. Cardio does nothing to change your bodies composition. Look at the greek runners who ran the first marathon they died, so did the father of modern running some dumbass who tried to copy their 165 miles in a day runs. He died 30 minutes after completing the run. Aerobics has wreck more knees, hips, ankles and backs than anything anaeorbic its not just counter productive its dangerous. Stretching is also dangerous btw look at all the baseball players with the hip injuries this year, thats from having their trainers stretch them out like Brad Pitts character in that movie "Burn After Reading" did to that one client who heard the pop.

I agreee with Dream if your going to reguritate information do it from a creditably source who has science and and background in medicine...wait Doug is a doctor and does have science backing him hes not just trying to sell gym memberships, hours of time a personal trainer or some bullshit supplements that dont work thats Weider and everyone else sucking off the fitness tit and making money off of peoples sweat and blind obedience.

Ya and those people that have "wrecked" ankles and knees are either over training or just started doing too much intensive training that doesn't go with their fitness level and weight. Cardio is very effective but you first have to go speak with your DOCTOR and hell tell you whats okay to begin with because he knows your body more than you do.

With todays kit wear, the amount of damage done to your joints in proper running shoes isn't even worth mentioning.

To say using Y + X calories whilst running doesn't make you lose fat when you're only taking in Y calories is absurd. The amount of people in the world who have lost weight from walking briskly/jogging is .... Huge.

Runners you see in the olympics, you can see most of their ribs and stuff (disgusting) because they have sod all body fat %

Low intensity is kinda stupid I do admit, but it's better than nothing. High intensity is what you should be doing though.

What I think Dream was merely trying to point out in this post was that perhaps there is a better way to train for fat loss than doing long duration aerobic training.

Long duration aerobic training isn't useless but there is a hierarchy when it comes to training for physique purposes.

From most important to least important.

1. Sleep/Psychology

2. Proper Diet

3. Weight Training

4. High Intensity Interval Training

5. Aerobic Long Duration Training

To deny this would be to deny all the current research that has come out in the past 8 years or so. If you need me to, I can provide studies and dates. I would just need to dig into recent archives.

Before anyone crucifies me, I do have a degree in exercise physiology. I also own a business in which our primary objective is to get clients to lose as much body fat, not weight, as possible. If this formula didn't work, I would not have a business. Especially in this economy. People want results, go figure.
