I've been curious about nlp and I've started reading about it, bought a few books etc, read the posts here, I don't really have any detailed understanding as yet.

But a friend of mine who has done an nlp course, told me that theres a lot of bullshit in it, and even some people have likened nlp to a cult!

So i started reading critical/negative articles about nlp, as its important to get a balanced view.

Some of the major criticisms seem to be lack of scientific proof, but im not a scientist and if something works, it works! i don't care how.

But there are some things that i find slightly worrying, one is how ferociously supporters of nlp attack people who raise questions about it, another is a lot of these techniques seem kinda transparent, like people are aware that you are doing what your doing and you just come across as creepy.

For example in the game neil strauss describes ross jeffries as creepy! even tho ross jefferies is pretty shit hot he is still perceived as odd?

Do you think that by learning nlp, it can have a negative effect on the way people percieve you? that you are manipulative? or just plain wierd? do benefits outweigh the negatives or are there not in fact any negatives?

what are your opinions? pls discuss

If you don't want to be creepy then don't be.

Ross goes for the jugular. While you can learn from him you need to find your own way of communicating that isn't creepy. I would suggest to push beyond your creepy boundaries to find out what works for you. Since doing the same old same old will get you the same results.

I find it pretty funny that you think their is a choice between NLP or No NLP within the Pick up community. Because every PUA uses a wide variety of NLP persuasive techniques. Mystery and Neil with the communities help have just scripted the ideas and presented them with a nice bow around them.

So evidence or no evidence if you think PU works then you have your proof for many of the NLP concepts.

Richard Bandler is the source.

Much of NLP out there may be really cult-ish without real understanding, (people who don't adapt the thinking that leads to the techniques, and the Attitude, you may call it, as well as knowledge.)

NLP started out as a direct approach to what works and what doesn't work in certain settings.

Thus cutting away all the aspects of therapy (or generally communicating efficiently) that don't work.

So if you can go in, get the knowledge of hypnosis and how people work, and then adopt the mindset that Bandler has which is about making things as easy as possible, you will probably have more success than if you go out and think of NLP as one of these 1,2,3 methods.

There's no thing in NLP that works with everyone. It seems to be more dynamic, and about adapting to the situation with a well-equipped tool-set with tools such as different aspects from hypnosis as well as efficient language that allows you to adapt to the World View the person you are communicating with has.

Dig ?

If you've heard about the ways hypnosis was tested earlier, it went something like the scientists playing a tape with a monotone voice commanding: "Relax,.... Your eyes are heavy! - Sleep... Sleep Sleep..."
And then rating people on a form from unhypnotizable to how deep they could be hypnotized.

So, if you go for these people who think of hypnosis and NLP as something that is static. As though it's an established Science where we already have found everything that is to be explored, you'll get disappointed.

There's a lot of Humbug within every "science" or method.

So, if you ask around a little you'll find the persons you can benefit from reading or listening to, and who are just leeches.

(Just like you want to go to the PUA-gurus and not the Internet Keyboard Jockeys if you want to learn to pick up women.)

Cheers ;)

Hey Man

Great question. I am a Master Prac of NLP,Hypnosis and Timeline. Is it a cult no its not, i agree people out there will swear black and blue NLP is the only way, its funny as these people have a very basic understanding of NLP. I can tell you what a fantastic modality NLP is, i can tell you of the amazing changes i have created in my clients or i could even tell you how NLP has made my success with women increase ten fold, BUT the only person who can tell you weather its for you or not is you. The books are great as are audio programmes, but the best experance of it is to do a seminar, i am not sure where in the world you are but there will be people doing seminars thay range from 1500-3000 dollars. In regards to what Neil said about Ross thats just his option, i am sure some girls would say its creepy to be on a site that tells you how to pu..... does that make you creepy????

There are some aspects of NLP that work. Like alpha male body language, mirroring and that kind of stuff. But to the extent that Derren Brown shows - I really doubt it. Maybe he is the only guy who can really do that kind of stuff because he has practiced it over years, but I don't really think it's worth to go that deep for an ordinary man. I think you might just come across as looking creepy.

Paying for NLP education in my opinion isn't smart to say the least. You can download all that crap from torrents and teach yourself.

NLP is effective when you have a good command on its tricks. In order to properly use NLP, you have to get some knowledge about how the human brain works, get acquainted with the psychology od woman's brain. It's better to try NLP on your friends, classmates, work colleagues, whoever. And then use it in seduction. But of course, some tricks work and it's commonly known.
