I know some of the guides say to keep doing fun things and sweep them off their feet, but if you're not mPUA then you're not mPUA. I know I'm not. I can't pull off their closes yet. So I constantly fluctuate between fluff talk and straight game. What you're probably need is a good dose of fluff talk!
Lets say you open and the opener goes well. You tell your DHV story and that goes well. Maybe inject just a little fluff talk before you illicit value from her. In fact, I usually use a little fluff talk to illicit value from her. For instance, you might ask a situational question: "So do you go to ___________ University/College?" Of course they do, they're in a bar at a college town. Follow with, "Cool, so do I! What's your major?" Again, another simple, normal question you're normally told to avoid, but here's the kicker, now you illicit value. "Oh that's cool, I've never met an education major before. So I know what you do, but what are you really passionate about? Like, what really centers you when you have one of those off days?" You get all sorts of responses to this, anything from hobbies like reading and hiking to things like playing an instrument or sometimes they may even admit to being a closet gamer! The point is that she is giving you a hook. You need to take all the hooks she gives you and stretch them out into a short conversation.
When I absolutely run out of things to say I usually (and VERY quickly) change the subject to something radically different, and I usually let them know I'm doing it to. Ex: "So I've just met you and I know I don't know very much about you, but what do you think of _____________?" That blank can be just about anything. Avoid the standard religion and politics subjects, and put something from current events (Craig's List killer is a good one) or something about the music in the club, etc. You can see where I'm going with this. Conversation skills are best practiced within your social circle, but not with your best friends. Here you have value and you usually don't have to open as extravagantly. Talk to people you don't normally have long conversations with and try these things out.
