Hi guys,

Tonight I was playing a bit with a very simple online opener on MySpace, Facebook and some similar sites. I want to remind you that my profiles are far than optimized, in fact I need to start working on it. But nonetheless, this opener even diminishes the barrier of an non-optimized profile. The opener is something you all know, very simple, but surprisingly effective. Its very indirect and poses no threat at all and I sent out a total of 30 messages in two hours of time and I got 23 responses. Remember, cold approaching on these sites is relatively difficult especially if you don't have a very decent profile + photographs. I think my photographs are OK, but also far from optimized (taken with my LG Viewty cell phone, no hot women standing next to me, no displaying of social proof, just me standing with a cold look in my eyes and even no laughing)

Here are the lines I used:

"Hi, can I ask you a question? Imagine you get to know a guy, he seems nice and interesting, the two of you get into a relationship and everything seems to go well and cool between the two of you. Then, it gets a little bit serious and he expresses his wish that he would like to go out with his friends once a week till early hours in the morning. You are invited to join them but you may be the only girl with a bunch of guys, some of them possibly even drunk. Would you join them or do you think it's not right for a guy who has a nice girlfriend to hang out with other (single) guys the whole night on a regular basis (once in a week)? Or would you think its ok as long as he doesn't object when you do the same thing and go out with your female friends, possibly giving him the opportunity to join you? I wonder what a girl like you thinks!"

For some weird reason, women simply respond to this very simple line, even if they are not into it at all. In these cases, you get an very direct response which reveals her opinion on the issue. But more often you get IOI's, such as general flirting or playfullness, or a question like "Haha, you seem like you are in some kind of a trouble with your girl" or after she has given her opinion asking "Why do you ask?" or "why do you ask me?". Then you proceed with some DHV and busting on her or women in general, but keep it very playfull.

It seems like totally not offensive, nor needy, nor insecure, yet different, compelling and interesting.

Anyways, I got 5 emails in two hours of time (I never ask for phone numbers on these sites in the first messaging session). I think this is pretty good for social networking sites, taking into account an unoptimized profile and pictures.

How is this any good? It sounds like you're asking for her permission.

But if it works, it works, I guess.

@Molson

What do you mean asking for permission? I would say it's more asking for opinion.

It's great. It gets her talking and shows that you got more on your mind than an AFC.
