Only you can make that decision for yourself, but feel free to consider this advice.
The more I go out and sarge, the more I realize how alcohol affects my game. I still drink some, but I'm trying to cut back and not keep up with anyone else. It's just as much fun if not more so when they're drunk and you're not.
I haven't smoked weed in about a year. Quit before I really knew what pickup was. MJ just wasn't having a good affect on me. Sure it made my body relaxed, but sometimes I'd get paranoid, most times I'd pass out too early, munchies... well you know.
The thing about drugs in general is that: while it may be easier to approach after a few drinks, few hits, few lines, whatever; the state of mind you're in is artificial. You
can achieve the right mindset naturally if you work on it and if you believe in yourself. Yeah, you have to work on it. It's not fucking easy. However, it can be accomplished. If you had told me that a few years ago, I would've disregarded it. But I'm witnessing this ongoing change in myself right now.

Beside that point are the side-effects: you trade courage (liquid, leafy, or powder) for control. Even nights when I considered myself buzzed or lightly drunk, I've looked back and seen mistakes I made because of the alcohol. Can't even imagine trying to sarge while stoned.
All that said, if you do use drugs: don't drive, stay with your friends, be aware of your body, and be aware of your surroundings. Geez, I sound like the old guy here.
