I don't see it as a a bad thing. If the boy aren't willing to accept my geekyness then I'm not interested in them.
I'm a geek. I accept that.
If they can't, then they're not worth my time.
I am not talking about your geekyness. But word choice. Because there where times when I had some girl call me boy and it felt like I was immature or I was a "kid" due to the way the girl said it. And I am just saying that depending on how you say the word boy it can effect your out come with that opener. Thats all.
Oooooooh.
Sorry about that, I totally missed that one.
Yeah, I can see that as being a problem. I tend to use boys and I'm betting one problem I have is that it sounds condescending.
Thanks! I'll start using something more macho. Like guys. ^__^

I would respond to that opener well. Next time you are in the field you should try asking about cars, sports, or dogs (alot of guys like dogs but no little rat dogs). If you want a hard core nerd ask "what is better a Paliden or a Cleric when fighting a undead Lich" hehe im a former uber nerd. Now im just a regular nerd.

Heh, well I'm glad so many boys like it. I'll use it today and see what kind of results I get.

Alright. I've tested it.

Three times I went up to three boys in my University mall and asked:
Cinn: Hi there.
Boy: Hi (Internal systems on Red alert! Pretty girl is talking to me!)
Cinn: I have a question for you. See my friend and I have been...we've been having words about this issue. Who would win in a fight Superman or SPAM?
Boy: Responses varied from Superman (Earrings) to I don't know (Newspaper and Backpack).
Cinn: See I always say it's SPAM. Cause he's got the Kryptonite Ring, right?
Earrings: Oh He has a ring?

Newpaper: Yeah but if Superman knew they were gonna fight he could just be super-fast and kill SPAM first.

Backpack: Yeah... (This was 'Yeah' one out of about 300 to come)

Three separate boys mind you, in three separate places.

I'm gonna turn this into an FR but as you can see, I'm having a bit of trouble with it.

Any flaws you guys cans see?

Cinnamon

Hey Cinn,

My ex bf was a computer/EE double major so he was super nerdy (but the cutest guy I've ever seen) and ever since him I just keep bumping to all of these EE/com sci/nerd majors.

Here are some things that have went over really well with the geek crowd, as negs/teases but the general topics are on okay go for any convo with a geek:

Guy: says something you disagree with
You: Oh, my bad, I didn't realize we switched over to binary code.

^^ they love that one.

You: Comp sci/EE/nerd major, huh? Are you any good at C++?
Guy: Of course/ I know some/yes!
You: Can you explain it to me sometime, I'm a little confused about the theory behind objective oriented languages.
Guy: .. you wanna go back to my place?

^^ always make sure to mention objective oriented language in the same context as C++ for any guy who has even brushed up against computer programming. its like spanish fly for them.

this is how I actually got my ex bf. i told him i needed to learn c++ for grad school and he assigned me homeworks that we would "go over" together. I did one.

if he's an engineer, ask him what his major is. then tease him about being anti-social. here's the hierarchy of social skill and engineers:

1. comp sci - make up a fake computer problem question for these guys
2. chemical/civil/mechanical
3. electrical - a good neg for these guys is to ask them how many professors they can recognize by smell (the inside joke is that EE people never shower).

Guy: talking about something boring
You: (interrupt) so how many WOW handles do you have?
Guy: none!!!!
You: Yea right, you look.. and smell *sniff him* like someone with at least 5.
Guy: I don't play WOW!!
You: But you're a nerd...
Guy: Not ALL nerds play WOW..
You: Whats your vice then.. japanese anime???
Guy: I watch/dont want japanese anime.
You: Its turning you on, thinking about it, isn't it? I can tell.
Guy: Anime doesn't turn me on.
You: Oh, it must be then... my bad *tilt head/innocent stare* OR Oh, it must be then... you perv, we just met *play hit on the chest for some kino*

^^ most guy you want to approach don't play WOW (world of warcraft) and I've only met a few who're into anime, but if they have any sense of humor they LOVE to be teased about it.

So basically, look completely non-nerdy and then blow him out of the water by knowing alots of things about geek culture.

Hope this helps :)

I think the key with any opener is to get a conversation rolling. If you're dominating the talk between four people, then you probably haven't engaged them that much. Try switching tactics, or eject.

I think an opener that would never fail would be to ask for a guy's help with something... to flow with your geek fetish, perhaps a little computer problem, or something to do with hooking up electronics.

Perhaps something like,

You: "Hi, I was wondering if you could help me out with something?"
Guy: "Uhh... sure, OK."
You: "My roommate just got a new sound system for his TV, but he hooked it up and it sounds all weird. Is the big speaker supposed to go at the back, or the little ones?"
Guy: "Blah blah blah"

Then there's tons of opportunity to stack into something about movies you're really interested in (to show your geek value), etc.

I know I'd have a hard time saying no to a damsel in distress. Haha.

Then, if you're looking to get him back to your evil lair, you can just cross a few wires in your surround sound, and get him to come over to help. Game over. ;)

Hope I helped.

I did a search on "geek" and found this thread...I couldn't resist replying. I'm going to test this opener today.

A male friend and I are going out to lunch, so we will see how it works with a wing.

Also, it's fun to see more girls who admit to being geek girls and who admit to LOVING geek boys. :)

Personally, I'm a sci-fi geek with hints of computer geekyness and science nerdyness. I actually understand things when a boy starts talking about time travel, worm holes, and Star Trek. :)

I'll let y'alll know how it works at lunch. :)

p.s. There will always be a special place in my heart for Superman. ;)

it was a SLOW evening at the grill where we had "lunch" (cause lunch for me is at 5:00), and besides myself and my friend, there were about 6 people in the place. two of which were male and they were both over 40, so I was not about to try the opener with them. *sigh* maybe another time. I'll report back if I ever get the chance to use it.

I used my World of Warcraft bit on an IT guy at work and now he basically won't stop talking to me.

I really think that the biggest trick to getting a geeky/nerdy guy is to not really resemble a geeky or nerdy girl that they would normally see but slowly reveal more and more that side of your personality.
