Now I know this might go completely against your DHV, but havent you ever had to do it when you're caught in the open?
Like there's this little problem you have, and some girl remarks on it?
For me it happened at a karaoke night when two girls kept pushing me to go on stage (for the record, i sing so bad i get ashtrays thrown at me from the non-smoker zone)
Is it a good idea to circumvent your own negative attributes with a joke?

Joking about yourself IS a demonstration of higher value. It shows you don't think that you're above other people and that you don't take yourself too seriously. As long as you aren't demeaning yourself. You SHOULD joke about yourself.
