I've not found that much information on this as I'd like. My profiles on social networking sites need updated and freshened up, basicaly a revamp. However when it comes to writting About Me: I go blank and I'm not sure how to word an interesting, eye catching profile.

Only looking for some advice and tips, Thanks,

I have a similar problem, I have a lot of hobbies and things I like so I could write for days, but it all seems like endless rambling, I always think, the more you write, the less it's likely to be read, and I try to stick to the samurai maxim of as less words as possible when doing so. I have a real problem online though, in real life women have a tendency to go after me because I'm confident and good looking, but online, I'm more pensive, thoughtful and less decisive, so my success dwindles.

I would just try to make yourself sound interesting and have DHV spikes, but again, i'm not the best at this.

Boy have I been in this boat before! It took me a while to figure out most of the good suggestions and tips to use. I think it took the dating site companies a while to figure out what makes up a "good profile" as well.

I have a lot of stuff I can tell you, so I'm going to post them and try to keep them short.

The main thing you guys mentioned was the "About Me" area which I think everyone struggles with writing. It's hard to know how much to write and what to write in there. There are sections for other stuff in your profile here you need to write about your personality and convey it!

I might write...

"I'm the type of guy that laughs at life, and is spontaneous. I don't know what I'll be doing too far in advance. I like life and love to live it. I love riding in the car with my music blaring, windows down, singing at the top of my lungs. It seems like nothing bothers me and my positive nature. Come to think of it I'm going out for a drive!

I would need the girl I'm with to understand my outgoing nature and be positive like me. If you like singing it the car or tall like I am then you get brownie points!"

Keep it short and to the point. Always make sure to include the type of person you're after in these. Don't get overly specific on the type of girl you are after. You can screen the uglies out later. How many girls do you think are going to like singing in the car. They all get brownie points which makes it good! :)

Save the hobbies and stuff for their appropriate sections in the dating profile or networking site profile. Anywhere you can through in a DHV spike is good here. Things like "I'm the kind of guy that's there for my family and friends. If 2am I get a call from my little sis that needs me that's it I'm in my car driving 400 miles to see her. Can you believe some people can't appreciate that?"

Pictures

+Have them, have lots of them, keep the current. None with shirts off. Ones with girls are good to demonstrate pre-selection.

+ Be concious of what's going on in the background to pictures, some people have messy rooms, or bunny ears being given.

+ Have pics of you doing your hobbies and stuff you're into to show you don't sit at the computer all day waiting for a reply.

Headlines

This is more for dating sites but update these and keep changing them to get better responses. Find what works for you best.

Be Positive

Use a positive tone when writing and don't say anything negative about anyone period. I don't care if you like Barrack or McCain. I don't care if you like Satan or God. I just care if you like my profile. :) This includes talking about ex girlfriends.

Use an overall positive fun tone!

*These should help you out some guys.* Questions ask on my online thread or "PM" me.

heh... I was chatting with a HB9, who seemed to be really into me......... up until the point when I said I listen to everything but country music. I think the keywords I used were "can't stand it"... Yeah, totally blew that one. Turns out she was from TX and loved country.

PS - SAVE THE NEGS FOR REAL LIFE. Using them online is like using a sledge instead of a feather. The problem is it will still look like a feather until you use it.

Thanks for the replys guys, they did help.

Here's one of the paragraphs I have from my social networking site, I don't use that website to sarge but thought I might aswell tart it up a little too.
Quote:
Me and my life...I'm an easy-going, energetic, fun and genuine guy, I'm generous to those who deserve it, and give respect to those who earn it but I won't get walked over. I appreciate life and enjoy while I can, It's all about the banter, we're here for a good time not a long time. Life's about freedom, the sky is the limit. If life gives us rocks, it's our choice whether to build a bridge or a wall.! :L Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life" meaningful :)
Thoughts?

Cheers!

Bro, honestly.... one too many cliche's

It sounds like a paragraph I would read in a pamphlet designed for motivational speakers or pyramid scheme. Or like you are one of those douchebags who sits at the end of the bar in a turtle neck smoking some cigar no one has ever heard of while sipping on a snifter of brandy as he brags to the co-ed about the last ski trip to the Swiss Alps he took.... In other words you sound fake.

Plus it says nothing about you, except you are a nice guy who likes to build bridges and walls. I would shorten it and just say something even more simple like.....
Quote:
So, yeah, I'm smart as a kitten. I am a pretty compelling person ( you are reading this, you can obviously tell. lol ;) ). I have a very active life, and love to just kick it with my friends. I am pretty competitive, so be prepared for a challenge. I tend to keep things light, and always get excited when I meet a person who has that certain je ne sais quoi about them. Thats about it.... What else? Oh... I also bite. :P

Cheers.
Don't use this exactly... unless you want to... but I think I may use it now. LOL

Thanks for your reply and honestly Chino.

I see where your coming from and yea I agree and can see it now myself, it does sound a little bit much and fake. Thanks for the advice.

Respect!

I personally think the profile is important, others disagree...

The hardest part, in the beginning when i was creating my profile, was to not be so logical about it. Men are typically very logic in the thought process, where as women are more emotional.

At the same time i had an issue where i tried to appeal to everyone, an issue that will become very frustrating...

If anything i have learned one thing...the K.I.S.S. ( keep, it, simple, stupid) principle is an amazing aspect to incorporate into the profile. As well, figure out your personality and stick with that as a style.

Its usually easier to create a friendly positive profile and stick with that persona in the messages then creating an "all about me" profile and comming off to fake.

Personally i dont "talk" about "myself" in the profile, but allow people to get an "understanding" of me through the words and images.

I have a link in my signature to my myspace...

No problem, you just sounded like a boyscout. Divine said it best. Keep it simple. Listen to what Jsmooth says. The man knows his shit. You should put your personality into it, but you don't want to give away everything about who you are in one paragraph. Let them work for the right to get to know more about you. Know what I mean?

Was this for like myspace or bebo? Or a dating website?

Post up the revised edition.
