what are some basic guidelines to live by when coming up with openers or doing it on the fly?
for example... talk to the group and neg the target etc..
i feel like i my openers are shit so i need some new ones or a way to come up with new ones

Find something you are truly interested in and make it into an opener. If you are genuinely interested in the material, it will show in your body language and tone.
For example, in the mall one day, I was really thinking of dying my hair. However, I wanted some opinions on it so I went to open up sets with the opener, "Hey guys, quick question, I'm thinking of dying my hair either red or blonde, what do you think?" then I proceeded to engage the set by pointing to each of them and asking, "Red or blonde?".

thats the opener that Jack Coxwell used.. it worked out pritty good for him except that he wasent good back then s ohe couldnt take it anywhere :)
