Hey there. So I'm 19 and my back is pretty messed up. No, I'm not like the Hunchback of Notredamn, but I'm always hunching no matter how hard I try. Do you guys have any tips on how to correct body posture after years of having incorrect body posture? I try and try and try, but I hunch after a while.

I'm sure this had to do a lot with my lack of confidence, but I'm way more confident now so I think it's just a VERY BAD HABIT.

I am doing a few things though and I will let you know if it works:

- Yoga
- Strength training
- Sitting up straight AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

That's it, any other suggestions? I almost feel like I'm screwed but I still have hope.

The best way I found to fix any habit is tell your friends and family that you are trying to fix your posture and that if they see you slouching to mention it or punch you on the arm lol. After a while you will have good posture.

Hey man i think my post can help you read number 2 in mastering your body language. Stand in front of a mirror and do it, whenever you feel you are hunching just follow my instructions in the post.

I agree with speaker. Being 6'5" as I am, you naturally tend to hunch over because nothing is made tall enough for you. What I generally do, whether I'm trying to impress someone or not, is when you're just standing around, place your hands in you back pocket or hook your thumbs into your back pocket. This naturally pushes your chest forward and brings your shoulders back.

Thanks everyone, I'll try that. I also heard sitting on a fitness ball helps improve your posture and I have one so why not use it as a chair?

If it seems like your shoulders are like caving in hunch. Start concentrating on your back exercises. If you start packing alot of muscle in your back. It contracts and pulls your shoulders slightly backwards, so your chest kinda pops out. Either that or just try to always walk tall, chest out, chin up. If you work on it hard enough, it gets imprinted in your brain. You just subcontiously do it.

I used to slouch a lot... what really did it for me (besides developing back pain) was just to constantly concentrate on the fact, and force myself all the time to sit up straight. After a while it becomes a habit, especially if you make a mental note of it every time you see your reflection and you are either slouching or looking good. (Slouch = hey man, sit up straight! we told you!, straight = damn buddy, looking good! =) )

firstly, pm madals, the guy has some sort of brittle bone disease and still remains happy and confident so if you have a true permanent problem with a hunch he can probly help you find your confident self.

secondly, i also have a hunchy style back. ive never seen it as a problem but i do realise my neck is more forward than most people's. i think all the advice here is great. sit on a fitness ball, get a personal trainer etc. avoid doing crunches or situps because that could make it worse

is it noticeable. and i dont mean do you notice it. i mean is it truly noticeable. i always thoughyt certain things about me are noticeable but no one ever sees em. the fact i show too much tooth when i smile, the fact i have moobs. theres lots of stuff like that man.

btw, heres some gold advice- if you dont think you can be succesful, then you wont be.

i dont think like this SPAM, but its coming along. buy instant confidence and change your life in 7 days by paul mckenna. bout £7 per book. thats like 12 dollars if your a yank. not much but this stuff applies to the whole life and is nothing compared to the price tag of the high-flying pickup material available.

be strong
be free
be you

Ive done yoga for awhile, and it helps alot.

But heres a few tip to get it going rather quickly.

1/ imagine your spine and your shoulders to form a perfect cross
- obvious reason why
2/ keep your palms facing up when you sit
- palms up rotates your shoulder outward
3/ never cross your arm
-hunches your back when you cross the arm
4/ keep your weight on the balls of your feet
-forces your spine to stay erect to keep balance
5/ keep your chin tucked
-forces you straighten your back to see where youre going
6/ sleep on your back with no pillow
-forces body alignment. Sleep paralysis/ apnea may occur sometimes if youre not fit. Dont overdo it in that case.
7/ dont put too much stuff in your backpack or shoulderbag
-too much weight forces you to hunch
8/ sit on your sitting bones.
-like how a girl sits with her butt sticking out.
9/ follow what was previously said.

I forget who it was, but I saw an actor being interviewed about a role he did in which he played a man who was used to being in command. When he got in character he would hold his hands behind his back and not use them because the character was used to being obeyed without the need to move a muscle, he said something and it was done. Try doing this when you stop to talk to someone, stop talking with you hands and just hold them together behind you. It will pull your shoulders back and you'll project an aura of command instead of letting you fidget and lean in...
