| The short answer; you make use of peoples fears, anxieties, troubles, traumas, etc. for your own benefit and if they do not have these you can create them.
The long answer involves the fact that you overpower their own abilities to chose, and make yourself, in our language, their one-itis. (and in most cases, an extreme one at that) Even when they may consciously think they should not even be interested because you have none of the qualities she really likes. Their friends will also notice this, but it's to no avail if they tip her off, as she will be like the wife of the violent drunk husband, who simply states she cannot leave him because she loves him. The Long version may even contain a sad little verse about her losing her friends, her jobs, her sanity, everything she believed was happiness, because there's only happiness with you in her life, and without you she's left like a wreck.
A Beautiful architecture leaning, like a deck of cards, on one statue, which was the one who talked her into trusting herself to only this one, and which may, since it is not bound by anything other than her pleas, her hopes, her dreams and her happiness, up and leave whenever it damn well pleases.
this is why they're bad.
It's a simple question of ethics.
and if people do not possess that, they shouldn't be let near the techniques, since it will, in effect, be like walking through the hedge maze of the emotional world with the equivalent of a chainsaw. Which kinda ruins the whole thing for a very long time, wouldn't you say ?
