I just watched the movie 300 last night, it was an awesome movie, but I couldn't help but notice how ripped Gerald Butler and everyone else was in the movie. Is there a workout out there that they did in the movie or similar? Thanks

The workout goes as follows

* 25 pull-ups
* 50 dead lifts at 135 pounds
* 50 push-ups
* 50 box jumps with a 24-inch box
* 50 "floor wipers" (a core and shoulders exercise at 135 pounds)
* 50 "clean and press" at 36 pounds (a weight-lifting exercise)
* 25 more pull-ups -- for a total of 300 reps

That was the actors did, each competing for the quickest time, as there is no rest in between sets.

Depending on your starting strength and muscular endurance, build up to this eventually by starting with lower reps or lowers resistance. Many people alter the workout and change exercises dependent on what equipment they have available. As long as a range of muscular groups are being worked and there is not rest between exercises the affect will be the same.

Superb work out and very hard, don't be fooled by how easy it looks on paper, give it a bash but don't try it unless you have experience in training and weight lifting. It's for the Intermediate and Advanced trainers.

In addition to the workout, they also trained for hours a day on activities such as sparring, fighting and stunt training. Their diet was also closely monitered as well. This workout was also modified and changed constantly during the process so that they were constantly working their muscles in different ways.

They were all trained by Mark Twight at Gym Jones in salt lake city, one of the toughest gyms in america. The 300 work out (listed above) was the series of tests they did every now and then to test progress and push themselves to the limit. Search for it on youtube where you can see more videos about how they did it.

:shock: That is a crazy workout. No wonder he looks like a monster in the film.

I have a long way to go before i will even get close to being able to do that. E.g - My best is 50 press ups in one go when i was as fresh as a daisy and it nearly killed me. No way i could do the rest as well. :?

this isn't at all a practical workout for long term goals. the guys who performed this did it for about three motnhs in prep for the movie and the toll on their bodies was apparently very bad. The only real idea to take away from this workout is to work intensely and to work primarily your larger muscle groups (quads, hams, glutes, lats, chest and core)

bodybuilding.com is an amazing sight that can answer just about ever workout, nutrition, and health question out there. As for training I'd recommend the HIT workout plan, great intensity.
